New MOD parts

Some pics of the new stuff we'll be showing at the show:

Proto #2 of the MOD KTM 990 ADV & 950 ADV/SE/SM Top Rack.
Mounted on the 950 Super Enduro R here...

and the 990 ADV here.

We're still finalizing a few details on this one but we're hoping for production to start at the end of January.

We're also planning to have the finished version of the MOD F800GS Side Stand foot available at a special show price

This is proto #2 with some great refinements:

The size has been increased to 2.5x the stock side stand foot size.
The one edge has been changed to have the least amount of impact on raising and lowering the stand. In other words the "over compensation lean" to the opposite side when raising and lowering the stand.

When the side stand is up there is a minimal amount of protrusion to the outside of the bike. Less likely to get ripped off and/or do damage to anything.

This is with the BMW centre stand. I would like to see how the SW-Motech one is shaped back there.

We're also testing a hardware locking system for these...more info soon!

Thanks for checking it out and hope to see you at the show!

Dave

New Lynx fairing for the KTM 690

Well, after much 'blood sweat and tears', we now have the new 690 Lynx finished and fitted to the bike that will be on display at the booth.

Those who know the Lynx will see that the top end is largely the same as our other Lynx fairings, but the bottom is completely different and designed to match up to all KTM fenders.

Fitting is pretty straight forward with no alteration the the bike required.

Here's a quick look at it, but it looks waaaaay better for real, so come and visit us on stand 805 at the show.

KTM 690 Enduro w/Britannia Composites Lynx 690 fairing

Another pic of the KTM 690 Enduro R with Britannia Composites Lynx 690 fairing...I want...

We're gonna set this one up with a Giant Loop Fandango Tank bag and Coyote Saddlebag...both in white I think...for the show.

MOD F800 GS side stand foot

Here are some more details:

It seems that for side stand feet the constant loading and unloading combined with the vibration of the motorcycle leads to loosening...and loss.

We are using Disc-Lock(r) washers on ours. For those unfamiliar, these washers actually, genuinely lock. Not like Nyloc nuts or lock washers these really work!

Essentially they are two opposing washers that have corresponding ramps in them and gripping teeth on the outside. The ramps are a steeper pitch than the threads so when the bolt tries to loosen, the ramps prevent it. See the description here:

http://www.disc-lock.com/stainless-steel-washer-install

In this pic the thread is backing off (by me loosening it) and binding because of the ramps. It gets quite difficult to try to loosen it.

They use the same theories as Nord-Lock(r) who have some very interesting comparisons with other bolt "locking" options and better graphs and videos.

An interesting graph of theirs:

http://www.nord-lock.com/default.asp?url=7.16.37

and the good old junker test:

http://www.nord-lock.com/default.asp?url=51.16.37

They also seem to be a better method than the threadlocker option as the threads of both don't have to 100% clean. Of course if you want to be 200% sure, drip away!

So where's the top plate for the MOD side stand foot?

It doesn't need one!

The combined thickness of the stainless steel Disc-Lock washers is 3mm (1/8"). The strength of those with the machined counter-bore for the side stand foot and the washers (way over-sized on the proto in the pic for trying other options, but will be properly sized on the production units) prevents anything from shifting.

Furthermore the bolt head itself actually protrudes slightly over the side stand foot for more strength and support of the washers.

100% solid and secure!

Still skeptical? I was. There's no substitute for real world testing after all!

So I picked up a hammer and proceeded to hammer the outside over 50 times! Nothing bent, loosened or shifted!
You can see some of the marks on my side stand and barely on the foot as there's too much glare on the pic

It works.

These washers are 10 times as expensive as a stainless washer, but it makes this whole thing work like no other!

So there it is we've upped the ante
...used our over-thinking ability again
...and will probably increase Disc-Lock(r)'s washer sales too and then how long until the copy cats come out?.

Patent pending?

They are going into production now (with yet a few more refinements in shape) but won't be ready to ship until after the week after the Vancouver Motorcycle Show Jan. 24th. You can however pick one up at the moto show. There is also a F798GS version for the stock side stand hot on it's heels as it's a mirrored foot.

Price will be announced next...

Thanks for checkin it out!

Dave

Any more info on those 690 fairings? They're currently not on the BC website.
