The tank has a relief for the release, but it was not large enough. I heated the area, and enlarged the relief to cure the problem.

Because tank was used when I got it, it may have expanded with age, so if a new tank fits, it probably should periodically be checked for clearance.
Sorry to hijack your thread like this BHB, but Im almost done with my build but alas, I have this issue with my 4gal IMS tank...stupid me, I already filled her with gas....

sooo...what method did you use mortimer? to heat up and "expand" the cutout for the comp release?

it looked tight when fitting it but as soon as I put the seat and everything else on it rubs...

I tried bending the comp release arm a bit INWARD but it still rubs a bit...

can you grind material off? sand it? or dump the gas and torch it? sounds risky...

thanks guys

P.S. Im dealing with a no fire rebuild too on this end...

Yes, I heated it, then pushed on the spot with my rag-covered thumb. The spot it was hitting was just at the edge of the existing relief, so I had to increase the area of the relief, as well as the depth of it.

Nooo torchy!

I first rinsed the tank several times with hot water, then used an electric heat gun... outdoors... with the filler downwind, just in case.

But, plastic shrapnel shouldn't hurt as much as steel anyway.

Looks like the culprit was a clogged oil screen from the bottom of the frame oil tank. Starved the oil flow severly.
Luckily I had a vance 100mm sleeve installed last go around by the talented Ron at RB Designs. I just picked up the newly milled sleeve from his shop today and am now running a 101mm JE piston. Plenty of sleeve left in case I screw this one up
I bought a complete rebuilt head off eBay that includes the rockers, OE cam, new valves, seats, and is ported with low hours. My old head was cooked and the head needs a new machined center journal, new cam, and new rockers. I'm going to rebuild this one later this year if I can help it
Installing the new top end today wish me some luck this time

Looks like some loose sealant had clogged up the oil screen. Maybe some other goo too left in the frame even after my attempt to clean it? Who knows?
