Cool2 Riceless Slices Up Johnson Valley with a RAZR

The phone conversation was like talking to a broken record.

RAZR, "I wanna ride"

Me, "The wind is icy and howlin'"

RAZR, "I wanna ride"

Me, "It's 30 degrees right now"

Razr, "I wanna ride"

Me, "It's gonna snow"

RAZR, "I wanna ride"

Me, "You'll have to pick me up"

RAZR, "I wanna ride"

Me, "Let's Ride"

Means Dry Lake

We both had on so many layers of gear we could barely move.

and this was headed our way

Johnson Valley is an Open Area so you don't have to stay on the trails.

But the combination of rocks & sand

Can make for some tricky footing.

We rode off trail alot.

Picking our way though the hills

All the while keeping an eye on the approaching storm.

We had gotten into a rhythm of riding hard for 30 minutes, then stopping for a couple 'till my heart rate came back down below 100bpm. Picking your line through the cresote bushes at speed is quite exhilarating. Traction was...perfect!

Dinosaur skull.

I've been trying to find a special section of an Enduro from a season ago without any luck. "Till now.

I told RAZR I wouldn't post this... yeah right.

He got even on this little drop though. After getting multiple photos of me bulldoggin' it down, he rides the mighty 525 down. No problema.

These little arroys are really fun.

North JV has some great singletrack.

The desert behind RAZR has been used for off road racing for more than 50 years. Just look at how tore up & ugly it is now.

Running out of daylight we headed back to Means but we still had time for a little duneplay.

RAZR liked the sandhills alot. Dunerat, you should be expecting a call from him soon.

On the way home it started snowing and made unloading alot easier..for me.

RAZR unloaded while I took pictures.

Thanks for comin' out for a HDJV ride RAZR. I had a blast!

Good stuff! I'm looking forward to riding in JV next month. How far north of Means Dry Lake/Boone Road is the 'good singletrack'?

Thanks for the pics.

It is icy and cold up here too. We headed out to Olympia because we were all having dirt withdrawls bad. Found a few trails that were doable, but my friends big 950 couldn't quite get the traction to push that pig up some of the hills.

Went home after someone bit it on the forest service road (ice). Thinking about studding some knobs now.

Between 5 & 15 miles depending on your definition of "good". The farther north, the gooder it gets.

Awesome. I like the 'gooder' trails. My group has 80-90 mile range with our fuel tanks. Maybe a little less with the JV sand! Any chance you want to lead 2-3 guys on your technical enduro routes around Feb 8-10th?

Will be there for the KOH race. Last year we found stuff but had a hard time linking the singletrack after it went through a wash...and the tracks were washed away. Can supply beer & food afterwards .

While we are waiting for RAZR to post up his pics, here's a video of the Enduro section "Capt Toad's Wild Ride". I have tried to find this place several times since the Enduro without any luck until yesterday.

The video was taken during the race. Enjoy.

Yes. Typically, 300s and 450s are better suited for this type of terrain. 950s are better on two-track.
