Has anyone had any luck getting any of the 5th gears for less than a first born child?

Don't know what your first born costs but that is the cheapest I could find...

Best,
Andy

Props to you Andy. Contacted Tohru, sent $119.75 by Paypal on 16th. Cleared customs in San Fran on 23rd and should be here in day or two. I asked for 2, but he sent me quote for 1 with shipping. I did'nt wan't to cause any confusion or delay, so I went with the one for now. Engine parts that were out for machine work should also show up in the next day or so. I love it when a plan comes together. Thanks again Andy and Tohru.

XR650l gear in XR500R motor

Hey guys!
I need your advice and assistance.
I'm building my bike xr500r 1984 in Russia, and I want to use this case to change (improve) the transmission.
I want to have a low speed on the 1nd gear and 2nd gear only, and high speed on the other gears (3,4,5)
I think this is possible!
Here are my thoughts of how to do this (correct me if I am wrong):
xr600: primary - 70/32, ratio1 - 31/13
xl600r: primary - 70/32, ratio1 - 32/13
xr650l: primary - 69/34, ratio1 - 32/12
xr500r :: primary - 70/31, ratio1 - 32/13
70/31 * 32/13 = 5,557 (OEM gears)
70/31 * 32/12 = 6,017 xr500r-xr650l (low speed on the 1nd gear and 2nd gears only!!)
70/32 * 32/12 = 5,831 xr600 / xl600r - xr650l (reduced speed on the 1nd gear and 2nd gears, and more the speed of the rest of the gears)
I have XR650l second gear (23 421-MN9-010 - new), and the gear will work in the transmission xr500r!
I have a second (output) COUNTERSHAFT FMX650 2005 and all the gears on it (including the 20T version is 23 491-MW2-780)
I need to have (buy) NEW XR600R-2000 23220-MN9-980 COUNTERSHAFT and NEW XR650L 23 211-MAN-690 MAINSHAFT (12T) (all gears perhaps?)!
I think this might work in the motor!
Can I use XR600R, XR650L shafts in my engine?
What do you think?
Any ideas, thoughts ......
Sorry for the bad English, I hope you understand me!!

Pics of the new gears going in....

Guys,

Finally got around to doing this as a winter project.

Took a pic of the 2nd and 5th gears going in maybe it will help some along the way.

Super simple to put on the shafts just keep track of what order the washers come off. There is a thin washer on the outside of the 2nd gear that is easy to remove with the gear and lose track of (it's kind of nested in the gear). If you have to remove snap rings something is wrong. Also the 2nd gear appears to be reversible, IE, no in or out direction.

Best,
Andy

PS: Yes that is a Miller High Life beer cap in the pic...

Does anyone have extras of these gears from the group buy? or got theirs and they never installed? I'm doing a long charity ride in E Africa later this year and thinking I could use that taller 5th gear, but might as well do both.

Thanks for any help/advice.

Hey man I don't have any extras but per my posts above the gear is readily available direct from Japan from Tohru. Most people get parts from him in 2 weeks or less.

With the yen being down the price is better now than the $130 I paid years ago.

Just saying anybody can have the 5th gear in hand in 2 weeks easily if you want unless something has changed on Hondas end recently.

Best,
Andy

Thanks Andy. Sent him an inquiry. It is nice the Yen has come back to a good rate with the US, plus I have a cc'd with no transaction fee :)
