I have that, I'm still trying to figure out what this means. I have the basic understanding of how a gear box works, but when the teeth and the ratios.... ugh.

thanks, got that info too, but what I mean is... what do those number mean. it doesn't seem to me that, for every rev of engine, the rear wheel goes 2.029 revs, nor the reflexive....

Best thing to do with that xls doc is to plug in all your info and save it. Then when you open it you can add numbers and play around a little and when you close it select 'do not save', then when you open it again it will back to square one.

These are the numbers that concern gear ratios. Plug in the XR-L transmission gearing and your sprocket and tire size. At the very bottom you can plug in the different rpms you want to know about. Max power tells you where red-line is and min tells you the lowest speed before you need to down shift. I put in 4,400 for max rpm because that is a good rpm for highway speeds.

Now when you want to make a change in gearing you can see how it effects your ride. Plug in 14/48T sprockets and see how much your highway speed (blue box) drops staying at the comfortable 4,400 rpms. You can also see what the first gear ratio is for an XR600R and maybe you have decided that is a good ratio for an off road oriented XR-L. Since the two bikes have different primary drive and first gear ratios just plug in those numbers to see what sprocket set you need to run to have an XR600R first gear. Let's say you bought a tach and find that 3,900 rpms is the highest rpm your bike will cruise at before vibration gets bad, but you want to be able to still do 70 at this rpm. Plug in 3,900 down at the bottom and plug in different sprocket sets until you get the numbers you want. Just play around and have fun.

I wonder if it's really true that the NX650 Dominator and the FMX650 bikes are European only. That's why I started looking at Honda dealers in the Orient.

I haven't given up finding another parts source just yet.
NX650 was a one-year only bike in the US too - 1988, with leftovers for 1989 registration.

Another European option is CMS in Holland

The picture attached to http://www.cmsnl.com/honda-nx650-198...ist/E++14.html shows 21-teeth, I think

The 01 Mar is approaching. I had mentioned somewhere a target date of about then to make the purchase. Who's in and out? and do we want to wait a bit more for the group buy?

I'm still on the fence. Let me know when you plan to make a purchase and if I'm ready at that time, I'll jump in.

Thanks for being flexible.

I'm in for one.

I also vote to wait a bit more to see if any of the other searches reveal a cheaper source. I have struck out thus far in my aimless net browsing.

Anyone else care to report in?

Carter, the answer is yes,........ or it had better be since I've acquired a used XRL tranny to swap into my XR.

Yo

SO is there an update on the 23491-MW2-780 5th gear mod? I have cases cracked and I am doing the 2nd gear mod thanks to MCMA111 in San Francisco. But I would also really like the 5th gear mod for Highway use. Did anyone find where to get one?
