Good to see a ride report from you again Doug. I ventured to South Florida Keys last April I think. Anyway, had been wanting to see the keys for many years. Once is enough for this old dude. Way too much traffic and way too high prices. LOL. Thanks for sharing.

The next morning, the forcast was a bit warmer, & sunny most of the day. We got ready to leave the hotel, visit some tourist spots, & start heading to the everglades.

we went to the southernmost point for a picture. it was early, but already there was a line of people waiting to get a picture next to the big marker.
We pulled up, & I had people coming up to me wanting to take a pic. I dunno why people are so interested in an old bike, but if you ride something weird, you'd better be prepared to talk to people. I've just never been good at blending in.
One thing I notice that is sorta funny, most times when we pull up & theres others on bikes, rarely will they come talk to me. They just sorta stare, and talk among themselves. I have yet to figure this out.
This is especially true with the chromosexual harley guys, & the wing dingers.
Oddly enough, the guys on enduros are usually more outgoing & friendly.

I hate standing in line, so we just pulled up to the marker & took a couple pictures

Poly wanted to see Hemingways house, so we stopped for a fast picture there

Mile 0 on US1

The ride back up thru the keys wasnt as bad, as most traffic was heading south, plus, I didnt run out of gas. We stopped a few times on the way to take pictures & see some stuff, as we had plenty of time to get to Homestead, where we planned to spend the night.

We took the smaller road after Key Largo, it was much nicer, & we stopped by Alabama Jacks, a nice bar in the middle of nowhere.

That night, I met up with Andy, from here on ADV at a local bar. Nice guy, & always fun to meet other bike riders.

The next morning we headed to Flamingo, which is thru the Everglades National Park, at the end of the road. There was a town here, but it had died off over the last 100 years,
& was just a ghost town & marina now. I didnt think there was a gas station there, & its 45 miles one way. I have a 91 mile range (I checked twice to make sure) so I bummed a
couple old oil bottles from Andy as a backup. It was a pretty boring ride out there, the country went from huge fields full of produce to the national park, with small forests, swamps, & huge grasslands.
When we got to Flamingo, I wanted to see the old town, but the hurricanes that hit in 05 levelled the rest of it, so there wasnt much to see besides the big marina & a national park office. They do have a campground, &

are talking of rebuilding the hotel, which was also washed away. They did open a gas station there tho, so I refilled the tank, & we started wandering back north, stopping a few times along the way to look at the critters.

make sure know one is looking, then fill the unapproved containers with gas.....

The vibrations took their tool on the headlight bracket.
It took less than 10 minutes to get back on the road, which as I explained to Poly merely meant it qualified as an 'adjustment', & not technically a 'repair'.

Flamingo

Kitty crossing, but we didnt get to see any

We did however, see alot of other critters.

3 piece & a biscuit!

Nice ride, story and pix. No bike bars in KW cause it's a scooter town. Too easy to park and don't go over 30 on the island. Green Parriot is the closest I can think of just cause you can fit a full size bike on thier sidewalk. http://www.greenparrot.com/

Dig that knuck. Only fix was the light - not too bad at all.

Saw ya and the RTW flame bike at the old school show last Bike Week. That black one is perfect for OB's pan and knuck show in over in Deland.

Thanks for taking us along.

Dood,
You're a hoot....love the headlight "adjustment".

Met you and Poly at Barber's Vintage Days. Prolly forgot to thank you for the "No Flat" product, but enjoyed meeting you both. Hope to run across you out on the road sometime. Thanks for taking us along...again.

Best.........John

Nice report.
I am heading to Key West in 2 weeks from PA(this should be good). I have other buisness in Florida and only plan to be in Key West one or two nights. Can you recomend any place to camp? Or a reasonable place to crash for the night?

Nice report, I like the critter pics and the pics of Key West reminds me if I ever go there again to do it in the summer. There were too many people at the marker.

Your reports are always good, keep them coming.
