In case you're getting homesick, here's what Huntsville looked like yesterday

I doubt he's homesick for that I'll bet traffic was pretty interesting before that melted off the roads Looks like a good bit of snow for that neck of the woods.

After Flamingo, we headed west on 41, thru the swamps.
There was some dancin festival at the Miccosukee Indian reservation. I knew Poly would want to see it, so we stopped.
It was ok, they had crafts for sale (most were probably made by native chinese) but the coolect thing they had was the gator show. Some fat tattooed guy pulled a couple gators outta a seement pond & proceeded to annoy them. Im sure these gators are pretty used to this, I bet pullin one fresh from the swamps would be more entertaining to watch. Was still pretty cool tho.

arent totem poles from tha Alaskan indians? must be part of some cultural exchange program they had goin on.....

harleys are always good for attracting chicks!

the ride thru the swamp on 41 wasnt as good this time, the water was high, & couldnt see as many gators along the road as we planned, but there were still alot of them. We made it to Everglades City, & spent the night

Let me tell ya something brother.. you got a keeper there with that girl of yours... cute as the day is long, AND she rides and will take a road trip... bikes come and go, but you tripped into some real luck there

If you happen to be near Daytona on a Wednesday, hit me up. We have a local bunch that meets somewhere in the Daytona area for Dinner every Wed night.

Heading west on 41, theres some gators along the road, in the ditch, but they were full of water, so we didnt se as many as we planned on. I wanted a pic of the bike & a gator, but without a guardrail in between them.
Didnt have any luck along here tho. We got to Everglades City as the sun was setting, & got a room. I like this place, its in the middle of nowhere.
The motel will probably add 'oil leaking harleys' to this sign after we leave.....

Local restaurant had frog's legs, Poly didnt like them as much as the gator tail.

The next morning, we headed north thru the wilderness. Again, no kitties, just the sign

we crossed over a bridge, & I saw a bunch of gators on the bank below. Maybe now I can get a good picture? So we turn around, & parked the bikes. We walked down thru a dry ditch, to see if I could get the bike down

there. Looked firm enough, so what the hell.....
Poly decided to film it, in case they hauled ass before I got the bike down to the edge.
No, I dont know why she was shaking the camera so bad.......

They didnt haul ass, so I took a couple pics.

The whole time, the gators just sat there. lazy. unwilling to move, so we could get an action shot.
I looked out to where they were at.
it LOOKED pretty dry & firm. I wonder how close I can get before they haul ass? Can I get all the way up to them?
Oh screw it, lets find out!

So I learned two things. Gators WILL run, when a noisy assed harley comes at them, and
the ground was a bit softer than it looked!

No problem. I engaged my reverse gear, while I went back up to sit under a tree & have a coke.

Hurry up Poly! I think they are coming back!

When the bike sinks to the frame in mud, no sidestand is needed.

So after she got the bike out, (she was a bit slow, guess she needs more practice) the ground was a bit torn up, I'm happy a forest ranger didnt show up, wasnt sure how I woulda explained all of this, but probably best to

just confuse them with the truth?

everything on the bike is coated with stinky swamp mud. Rotten plants, gator shit, fish heads, etc.
Its rather pungent.
The good thing, it will sling off as I go down the road. the bad thing, I dont have a fender, so its gonna fly up in my face.

Poly said there were chunks of mud flying off for about 20 miles. None of the big chunks hit me (or her) but the small pieces I had trouble dodging.
The swamp mud tasted as bad as it smelled.

We stopped at a store to wash down my tasty breakfast

Poly is fascinated by orange groves, as they dont have many of them in Bulgaria.

We got back to our friends house without any more problems, then went to check out the beach in Venice

water was COLD!

And Poly showed me how to catch a few fish.

Then we sadly loaded everything up (it was now in the upper 70's, dammit!)
went to the swapmeet, & then headed back to Alabama......

OK, See? I CAN finish a ride report!

Doug

This picture makes me laugh. We were just down there a few weeks ago. We stopped probably close to where you stopped. It was really cold that day and we were warming up. My wife kept looking over her shoulder. I thought she was watching for traffic, but figured out she was watching for panthers! Haha.

I am surprised you got that close to those gators. They normally hit the water if you stop your vehicle. They must have really been enjoying the warm sun.

My wife agrees with you about US27 Doug. She thinks it's a long and boring road. We have to take it for most of our day trips if we are going south. It's a nicer road north of Lake Okeechobee. More woods and some nice little towns.
