Anybody tried or can comment.....

Surfing looking for a new textile jacket (cheap ) I came across some Marsee Adventure Balistic Jackets for 200 bones.

Black only, but up here in the frozen wastes that isn't such a big deal, and only xxxl (OK I'm big boned)in stock.

I'd really appreciate any comment as to fit/form and function

Thanx

BM

Cheap but good alternatives

Check out Newenough for some close-outs on textile jackets:

http://www.newenough.com/product_gro...ut_textile.htm

The JR Atomic for $69 is an awesome deal:

And the JR Meteor for $99 is good too:

My Ballistic 4.0 is a good cooler weather jacket; in fact, an outstanding jacket so far. Fit is very good. Seems high quality materials (when I compare it to my scuba gear, and know the kind of abuse that takes); seems to have far superior armor to anything in its pricepoint, and above.

Olympia is making jakets now too, they use CE rated armor. It would seem that JRs would probably pass the CE tests just by feeling/looking at the armor and comparing, but I don't know what the test requirements are.

The Marsee Ballistic jacket is nice. Decent customer service, too.

Give Motorcyclecloseouts.com a look...lots of jackets in the $200 range.

I second the motion on the JR stuff. I've had the JR Revolution for a while now. It had some bad stiching in it when I got it (corrected it myself) but other than that it's been a darn good jacket. I think they're easily under $100 at New Enough...though I'd recommend the Ballistic 4.0 since I don't use the built-in backpack on the Revolution that much. As I do with most of my stuff I mix and match CE armor in the armor pockets as needed (I have a fave set of turtle armor I move from my mesh to my 3-season jackets).

I was impressed with the quality of the JR Revolution fleece liner, too.

You can fairly easily get a JR 2-pc set up from New Enough for ~$200 bucks. And I've had GREAT customer service from New Enough. Important - when you first get it is closely inspect every stitch, every seam. The sew quality and QC tends to suffer a bit. But if you've got a good one, then you can beat it up pretty well without worry.

One thing I've noticed about my JR gear: it's not the best stuff out there (every year I threaten to put mine on Ebay) but after 5 years of using it, it's still 100% functional and looks good. I'm not gonna put it in the same realm of Rukka, BMW, Aerostich, etc of course...but I'll be darned if the stuff doesn't do the trick on a budget. After 4 years with my 3.0 pants they've finally pulled a seam loose but it's a cosmetic item. NBD. Even though I've got a Roadcrafter I still grab my FG Kilimanjaro and JR stuff for around-town use.

I know you're talking textiles but I thought I'd mention that the Cortech Magnum/Magnum Air jackets are easily the best serious leather jacket I've seen for the money, and probably one of the better leather jackets out there, period. New Enough is selling them. I bought a Cortech Magnum Air last summer for $200 (from JoeDealer.com) and was blown away by the quality.

Hi Boxer,

For 2 bills, I would jump on it! I have had mine for maybe six months now. I LOVE IT I live in Sacramento, CA and ride in any weather.

I have a mesh jacket for the warmer weather and now this for the rest. I am a very warm natured guy and the only time I have found need for the liner was in a low 20's ride around Lake Tahoe. Decent venting, but I sustect this will be no summer jacket although if I am roadtripping in the summer I will likely reach for this jacket.

I have ridden in some pretty decent downpours and no leakes yet! Nothing like an 8 hour day or anything with it, but a few couple hour rides in the rain - no problem!

I went down (on asphalt) with this jacket on - speed was about 30mph or so and no damage to the jacket. Had there been, I would have still gone out and bought the same jacket as a replacement.

I really like the heavey duty construction - much heavier than many others I have looked at. The "stock" armor is also superior to a lot of what is out there.

I did a thread on it here http://www.advrider.com/forums/showt...rsee+adventure

Let me know if you have any other questions, OK?

If it's a cold weather jacket the JR Tahoe is warmer then the Ballistic 4.0 due to it's double wind flap on the front zipper. Everyhing else is about the same.

I got mine new off ebay for around 100 bucks

Thanks

Thanks all - I appreciate your evaluations.

For those with the Marsee jackets - how do they fit & how true to size do they run.

The Marsee site does not have a sizing chart (that I could see), but looking at other products it seems that the xxxl fits chest size 50. I've sent them an E-mail to clarify

How would you rate this jacket to a Darien?

Thanks,

BM

I typically find that 46R fits me. My Marsee is a 46 and it fits just as I had hoped it would so I would say they run true to size.

I just went and checked mine because I did not remember it being sized in a small, medium, large format and it is not, it is sized numerically.

I have no experience with the 'Stitch suit so I cannot compare other than to reiterate my satisfaction with this product. I would purchase it again without hesitation.

I have been wearing one winter and summer for the past 2 years. Zip out liner works well. Back, elbow, shoulder removeable armor. Waterproof too. Very comfortable. Some places have them to 5XL Tall in black only.
Speaking of being a big boy...That's my size! Got my 5X for $179.00. Later....................

Franky, baby.....

There are what 3 or 4 other posts regarding specific brands or questions regarding textile jackets - do I ass-u-me you didn't read those but read mine?. Thats effective marketing -

Made you look didn't I

I'd suggest, in hindsite, that if you don't like this you could have PM'd me or a mod with your objection rather then add nothing to the thread.

BTW - how does the Marsee jacket compare to others
