Dakar stage 9 (spoiler)

It was back to business today in the Telefonica Dakar Rally as Repsol KTM's Isidre Esteve won his first stage of this year's event, putting in the quickest time on the 224-mile stretch from Tidjikja to Atar.

While it was Esteve taking the stage win, the more important overall lead went to Fabrizio Meoni, the KTM rider taking full advantage of his late starting position today.

Today's stage was fast with very little navigation required and the big KTMs were able to stretch their legs. Esteve topped Meoni by one minute and 29 seconds. Third place today went to Palanders Ullevalseter, the Norwegian finishing ahead of Aussie Andy Caldecott. Yamaha's David Fretigne, meanwhile, took off first today and ended up losing over 14 minutes to Esteve on the day.

Meoni now leads the overall stadings over Despres and Caldecott. Marc Coma is fourth, almost five minutes behind.

KTM Red Bull's Chris Blais ended up ninth today with Kellon Walch finishing 14th. Team manager Scot Harden ended today in 26th place. Blais is now 10th overall with Walch 14th. Harden sits in 19th place after nine complete stages.
