New Zealand : Pureroa Forest/42nd Traverse/Fishers Track

I Just finished a bloody great weekends riding, managed 998km.

Saturday morning I left Auckland at about 8am, rode down to Cambridge by mainish roads, then down the sides of Lake Karapiro/Arapuni and into Pureora Forest.
Met up with Night Falcon and Jimmy.

We then discovered the center of the north island.

We then found a few tight bush tracks to enjoy, being 2x 690, one with full luggage and a 950, it might not have been an ideal track. But it was fun anyway.

990 almost going over in a stinky bog

I then camped at Kakaho Doc campsite, which was bloody lovely. A freezing cold bath in the river and some good freeze dried dinner cooked on a bbq.
I was very thankful for my new airbed, the last time I went camping I only took a foam bedroll, which was very uncomfortable.

Local bath at the Kakaho campsite

Dinner, freezedried delicious

Sunday morning Met up with Night Falcon and Jimmy at Turangi and we attacked the 42nd Traverse. It was the 1st time for them through the 42nd, they had seen photos of the KCAR river crossing and were expecting similar (quite high water levels, deep enough to truly drown your bike if not careful), but the water levels were very low.

The team crossing.

Progress along the 42nd Traverse

Once we had that done, onwards to the fishers. Being summer it was dry and easy.

Fishers was dry and easy, but bloody hot.

I then rode home to finish off almost 600km day.

Nice! That crossing is certainly a bit less dramatic than when I last saw it. Must take Rosie for a look through there when the 640 is a runner again. My Bro just asked for his 690 back I was hoping he'd forgotten where it was

Cheers
Clint

Yeah a pleasingly calm one since I had the full gear on the bike.
What a shame you had to give that 690 back, I feel for you.
And before you ask, NO you can't have mine

You resort to eating freezedry on an overnight trip?

I'm going to have to start organising some ADV cooking seminars

Otherwise, it looks like it was a good ride

Yeah you are right, it was a bit silly but I wanted to give them a try, see how they would go on a possible longer trip. It was a test, and they passed!

I was certainly sitting there thinking of other food items I could have been enjoying instead.
