Ccm (404, 604, 644)
Hey All,
Tried searching for a ccm entry but found none just a couple of comments...is there anyone else besides me that has one of these? I'm ridin a 644 ds and lovin it! |

604 came first and is an old school big bore thumper using an air-cooled rotax engine similar to the 500cc engine in the armstrong mt500. Most of these bikes were 604 but I had a 500cc model and there was also a tuned 640 version. They came with enduro or SM wheels, some had both.l
Since CCM were unable to commit a large enough order of the rotax engines, rotax stopped making the motor. This prompted the 644 using the engine from the suzuki dr650 / freewind. This engine is thought to be more refined, and possibly more reliable, than the Rotax at the expense of some power and "character". The Rotax motor is in fact very reliable but does need some owner input, while the suzuki motor is typically japanese. The 404 is a more modern bike using the engine from the more powerful (than the s) suzuki DRZe in a chassis with some higher spec components. |
