Gnomesville and back in a day!

Sunday 24 Feb 2013. A day that will be etched in my memory forever.

It all started with a call from Brian (exile730) on Saturday evening where we arranged to meet at Waroona 0800hrs on Sunday. So, with that in mind I had my last small glass of wine and duly fell asleep watching the telly. 30 mins later and after a few digs in the ribs from Mrs Muz, I woke up with a sore neck and some dribble down my chin. Sometimes I don't know how Mrs Muz resists me, but she is a woman of fortitude and somehow manages to hold herself back. Anyway, it was off to bed. A few pages of Sam Manicom's Under Asian Skies later and I was sound asleep in bed. Alarm set for 0630 hrs.

What felt like minutes later the alarm was sounding and I dragged my sorry arse out of my comfortable bed and into the shower. Slightly groggy, the warm water woke me gently and I managed to get dressed in my finest motorcycling regalia ready for the day's adventure without waking the rest of the household. I took Mrs M a nice cup of tea in bed then I was off, leaving at 0730. It was a beautiful cool morning. Clear blue skies with the sun rising slowly over the hills in the east. Music from my iPhone blasting through my Sena headset I was in dreamland as I headed south to our rendezvous point, stopping briefly to put some juice into Wee.

Arriving only slightly late I found Brian waiting in one of the local bakeries. He had been there since 0730 and was already on to his second breakfast.

Cappuccino and a sausage roll later and we were on our way south towards the Ferguson Valley which is well known for it's vineyards, boutique breweries and of course Gnomesville. Having lived down that way for a few years I had visited several of the breweries in the past and rarely came away disappointed or indeed sober. I had only ever heard stories of Gnomesville though.

The roads are splendid all the way down. The South West Highway is a major arterial route and although not a challenging road, the scenery is quite spectacular in parts. Not much concentration required on this section so it was a case of music full blast and enjoy the ride.

Then into the valley. Roads more challenging in that they are quite twisty and much narrower but still very enjoyable. Having passed some of the locals resting under trees trying to keep out of the now warming sun, we pulled up about an hour later and I must say I was astonished at what I saw:

No matter where you go in the world, a Scot will always have been there before you:

A fun ride out and Gnomesville although a bit weird is worth a look if you are ever down that way, even if it is just for the nice roads to and from!
