OK. I got the installation done last night. Seat, tank, everything back on and hooked up. All I have to do is put in some oil, gas her up, and proceed with the test flight. I'll have some fotos and an explanation of the little problem I had soon.

Temp Diff?
Thanks for the oil capacity info.
Notice any difference in temp yet? It'll be June before it warms up here. ![]() edit: found it on the other thread - thanks. |

What was that about a little problem? Oh yeah, when I was tightening the oil cooler mount bolts down to the previously specified torque, they spun.
Not the threads, the round boss, lug, whatever you want to call it, spun a little in it's base. Yeah, I was not happy, mostly at myself for being a dumb ham-fisted son-of-a-b****. I talked with Mark who was great about the whole thing. Not wanting him to eat the price of a cooler, I told him I know a great aircraft certified welder who copuld probably fix this thing, so let me give it a shot. As it turns out, the lugs do not mount into an oil passage, so leaks were actually not an issue, but they were loose. I had my friend tack those bad boys down. I cleaned it up and painted it, pressure and leak checked it, just to be sure, and here I am now with one cool runnin' XRL! I did not torque the bolts or use Loctite, but I did use a lockwasher. I drilled the heads of the bolts and safety wired them. That should hold 'em. I posted earlier about my experiences with the running temps, it was here or in the other thread, can't remember right now.

Not my best safety wire job (a little rusty, me, not the wire), but it should hold. One of these days I will also figure out how to resize pictures and get more than one in a single post.

XR650L Oil Cooler update
A new batch is finished and ready to ship.
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() The customers at the top of the list have been contacted. Until I get ahead of this and actually have kits in stock... If you want a kit, PM me with your order and complete shipping address and I will add you to the list. I will contact you when your kit is ready. Thanks for your patience. ![]() I inspect and clean up the threaded bosses on each oil cooler now. You will not have to do anything to them (we had a few with problems on the 1st batch). Cheers, Mark ![]()

Wow, I am very impressed by the kit. Will put it on my list of upgrades to consider. Any weight number for all the kit parts?

Wow, what a product!
It may make it possible to bore/stroke/increase comp.ratio w/o the overheating issues.
It looks like the hose guide mounts to the tank stabilizing tab. Does this interfere w/ the IMS 4.0 or Acerbis 5.8 tanks? PM sent - 1 unit requested. Can't wait!

Just finished the install tonight. This was such an easy project b/c the instructions were extremely detailed and left nothing to question. Pictures to come.

Hey fellas
I am in the middle of getting mine put on and have a question about the upper oil line coming from the bottom of the reservoir. Is the upper oil line, as it goes under the frame tube, perpendicular to the frame tube or is it aimed fore/aft? And it looks like it won't be real easy getting the spark plug in and out. This is the only thing I have left to do before putting everything back together. Just in time for some more snow
