Baton Rouge LA to Rocky Spring (MS) via as much dirt as possible
Spent the weekend trying to find as much dirt as possible from Baton Rouge, LA, to Jackson, MS to eventually hook up to the southern end of the Mississippi Hill Country Trail.
This weekend I made it to the Old Trace via the Felicianas, Homochitto National Forest, Henneberry Game Reserve, etc, maybe about 60-70% dirt if I exclude the 30 mile paved trek from Baton Rouge to St. Francisville:
Typical of the roads encountered, nothing fancy, just plenty of single lane country back roads and forest service roads:
Gas at Marshall's Grocery Store:
Camped out at Rocky Springs:
Hiked to the nearby stream:
Hiked an unpaved section of the Old Trace:
Hiked up to the abandoned town of Rocky Springs; all that is left is a couple of safes:
And a dry cistern:
This is the next day, on the way back:
BTW, I learned that in these parts of the South, what looks like a public dirt road in google maps can be in fact a private road in private hunting land...these hunters don't take kindly to ADVriders...

Nice ride - you will find more good dirt west of Port Gibson, but it will take a little longer to get to the MHCT.

Enjoyed the pics and report. As soon as hunting season is over, I will be doing some similar rides in the same areas -- same type bike too. I read your report on riding based out of Turner's Bend. This is another one on my short list.
