Missing something here Stage. I take it one of the winding leads running to the sliprings has hit the stator case & broken? have you repaired the old one or just replacing with the new one? Is the new one missing a winding lead where it shows a plastic half loop piece?

hi

The old rotor has open windings, internally. (the older looking grey one) No more continuity is measurable between the slip rings. Its a 400w, 76mm diameter rotor. Dont know why it shit the bed, but there it is.

I was sent a rotor for a 450w system, which has an 81mm diameter. Rick at M.E. just naturally assumed I had the 450w system, and I just assumed I had one to begin with, but there it is The new one ohms out at 4.2 across the slip rings, so I can only assssume its scrupulous rrrectitude. Doesnt seem to be broken or dysfunctional, must be a trick of the light

SO naturally I am upgrading to the actual 450w stator that will fit both the 107mm alternator base and the 81mm rotor.

Thanks RD and Lornce, you guys make me laugh

Currently taking bets on whats going to be the next forehead slapping installment of getting back on the road Memorial day is only 6 weeks away, should be Just enough time to squeak in under the wire!

don't take it so hard young paduan.
I just spent 3.5 years rebuilding a /2 from boxes and only learned upon its maiden voyage that I had a brake drum so badly warped that it isn't safe to ride.

I should have changed the fluids, torqued the heads, and put 500 miles on it thus far this week.

Instead, I just had a spare hub blasted, spooned off a new tire, unlaced a brand new spoke job, and will be re-lacing tonight if I want to ride soon.

Have a homebrew. You've earned it.

I had to slow it down, it was watchable but you had absolutely no idea what was going on :haha

Hey everything seems to be functional. Charging system is in place and reading 13.8 or better at my speeds. Its not really cranking much over 14v, even when I sat there at close to 5K or a little bit more. Curious about that on a 14v regulator.. but could be my voltmeter, too. Off by quite a bit relative to the other voltmeter I have.
I had to put the PAnasonic battery back in, as I had to use the PC680 for the girtlfriend's 1150. DId you know that sucker weighs 25 #$^% pounds?

Spare final drive is on and working, as far as I can tell.

Next week we'll be taking it on longer cruises and adding aux heat to see where the charging goes.

Also on tap: dual 35w HID's :wink they'll probably melt the housing
