Here is a video a buddy of mine made-
He's a great welder- builds rally car frames, etc, and did the welding on my engine case when I scrapped it.

One Take! Look for more How-To's in the future

Righty tighty, left loosey is hard enough. And isn't always right.

Laugh Damn you Stage...

Damn you Stage...

I'm been invited to the qualifying round of the GS Throphy and thanks to you I'm thinking about entering with my almost mint R100GS. Damn you!

Any tips on bike setup (currently COMPLETLY STOCK!) and work out tips for the body ( currently OUT OF SHAPE!)?

Regards,
Mane

Ah! The Trophy! Many congratulations! What a great honor! That is so awesome, I too want to sign up again this year, but it seems that the US qualifiers are in September, so I might be busy

You wont need to do anything to your bike, really, other than practice practice practice and get as good as you can.

Physically, the more in shape you are the better. Cant be in too much shape The Trophy will be a long two weeks of riding every day. Cardio- meaning trying to maintain a heart rate of about 140-160 for thirty minutes a day at least every other day is a minimum I should think. Everything else you can do on top of that is gravy.

Mostly though, the Trophy is about Attitude, and maintaining a positive attitude, having a good time, and being a good team player. Consider yourself one third of a three man force Always talk up and encourage your teammates and even the guys on the other teams, and dont get discouraged. You might not win the riding skills, but you will win the heart of the Trophy that way.

CAnt wait to hear more!

Hey Stage,

Thanks for tips, however I might not have explain my self clearly.

I'm been invited to participate in the selection process for my region that in turn might go to South America. It's pretty early stages for now. Actually I don't really hold high hopes to qualify for even next round, since a lot of skillfull riders would be attending (even though the airhead GS might be a secret weapon...). I'm in just for the experience.

Whatever I end up doing be sure I will posting here.

Regards,
Mane

Just for reference, I was probably the least skilled or equal to the least skilled of the six people that went to the first qualifier, in '08.

Its not necessarily all about motorbike proficiency Most of the challenges are only coincidentally bike related.

On another note: I called MAx's today to find out the status of the output shaft, its been a month. Turns out its backordered, and no further info available. Does that mean BMW is going to wait until they get enough orders to make another four or five and then ship them over?

Im thinking I should find a cheap used GS transmission and either put that in while I wait or use the shaft from in there. ANybody know where I can get a good used Trans?

Motobins had a few NOS but slightly rusty non circlip output shafts in their ebay store a few weeks back, but at $30- they might be sold out by now.

Try Lloyd "Bud" Provin at Nickwackett garage in Pittsford, VT

He's right on rt 7, just north of Rutland.... He may have something, or may know if Emerson Motorworks has any inventory left... as David was an AVID PD guy....

good luck buddy! I hope it doesn't interfere with the Roaming Rally......

Shawn Im hoping it doesnt interfere with the Roaming Rally, also!

Thanks for the suggestions guys They might come in handy but it would seem Anton has saved the day again. Turns out there might be an output shaft he is able to procure in the right amount of time to have me a fresh gearbox for this ride

With this new plan I should have the gearbox back in my hands by mid-May, which will give me about two weeks to make sure I got it back together properly.

It seems that if Germany is backordered, there arent any in Europe, either

I think we are seeing the beginning of the slide into "where are all the factory airhead parts" abyss

Had to go through a few pages to find this, so what a good way to bump it.

Some one's putting out feelers for a stage rally at Land Between the Lakes, in Kentucky looks like mostly gravel and pavement, so shouldn't be too bad. I'm not sure what route it would be, but it's a very nice area.

BTW- also here in the Sept there is the LBL200, which allows bikes to ride other wise unacceptable trails at LBL. I haven't done it, wanted to last year..maybe this year.
