KTM doesn't trust it - their factory riders use carbs.
What Luke is doing is far more challenging than a Paris Dakar rally. If you're Mark Coma or Cyril on a 690 you don't have those complicated parts. You've got the best KTM mechanics in the world with truck loads of spare parts at beck and call. Those mechanics are going over your bike every night; your bike is better taken care of there as if you were riding laps around the local KTM dealer! Luke sorry man - I can relate! I've spent many weeks in 3rd world country hotels waiting for parts for my 690. You start envying guys with step thru scooters. You start off as the cool guy all the kids hang around and want to play soccer with but at some point while working on your bike ... small parts spread out all over and having to answer the question for the thousandth time, "Hey Mister how fast is it?" "Hey mister... why doesn't it go?" you snap, threaten them with a pair of vice grips and from then on turn into the scary man! Don't do it! Let go of your plans and accept the adventure God gives you with a sense of awe, gratefullness and wonder! You're in Africa for Petes sake!! They have elephants there! |

Why?
Why don't you let Fishfund have his RR without a bunch of people getting in a pissing contest?
Then the mod has to lock comments and nobody can make any comments on his awesome RR. If you want to have a pissing contest, that's what PM's are for |

I dont want to detract from Luke's trip, but its naive to compare this trip to the Dakar. There are plenty of guys out there on KTM's riding rallies without any mechanical support in off-road conditions a LOT more hectic than your average trans-African adventure. of course thats not to say that these guys are not going to have a fantastic adventure either. This is only a minor issue; wait till theyre dealing with armed 10yr olds doped up on coke. Whether they will see this depends on where they ride.

Fish - I PM'd you KTM's top "690 fuel injection expert's" contact info but it looked like it may have bounced?? Let me know if you got it. He's been helpful to me while in Central America.
I just noticed you had 759 thousand+ hits on your Husky report! That's 6X as many as Dirt Rider's monthly subscription! If anyone reading this has any pull with KTM Austria/USA/SA I'm sure it would be helpful to subtly and respectfully point that out! For what it's worth, I've also got the 2008 model but I've had the fuel injection, lambda sensors and fuel pumps replaced with 2009, 10 & 11 versions. I don't think there was any difference. rickypanecatyl screwed with this post 02-10-2011 at 11:14 PM |

No updates for a while, so I'm guessing they fixed the bike and are now DEEP into Africa, having a good time.
