Not sure what happened here....

Looks like this poor fellow crashed his car into the tree and his skeleton is still there!

Caliente Bodfish Road is really good twisties as it winds up and down ridges.

A bit dicey in places where it was wet, but sheesh, check this road!

I ziggy zagged across the Central Valley to Maricopa, gassed, and headed up to the Carizzo.

Yep, there's absolutely nothing out there. A few old ranches at the start...then flat nothingness for 25 or so miles of dirt road.

Very nice to see no freakin' fences once you get out there though!

Took this video right where it transitions from ranch land to the National Monument.

Grazin' in the Grass seemed to be the appropriate music (with more cowbell)....

OK, I'm getting hungry. Let's head for my favorite meal: clam chowdah in a toasted sourdough bowl and a side of fresh, deep-fried halibut at the Morro Bay Wharf.

Oh my, there it is now!

Took an after dinner stroll along the wharf to enjoy the crepuscular (there's that damn word again!) hour....

This is off-season in Morro Bay. Got a really nice room with a view of the Rock for $33!

I was a bit amped up from the ride. So I gulped down a fistful of sodium amytal, chugged the half pint of Four Roses, and hit the pillow harder than I fell for that girl back in Moose Jaw.

These RRs are supposed to be all noir and stuff on ADV, right?

Right.

Up the next morning to catch sunrise on the rock.

Up the coast in San Simeon, this guy was all relaxin' and had Hearst Castle framed right between his cuernos. So I had to have a picture of that, right?

A little further up the road, the Elephant Seals were all sleepy too.

I was starting to yawn and wanted a nap....

But I stopped in at Ragged Point for a little legal pick-me-up.

Zoom!

I sat on a bench and sipped my espresso and stared at the wonderfulness of Highway 1. And what I get to ride next. Oh boy, oh boy, oh boy!

Up at Big Sur, I decided to try Old Coast Road. I'd always wanted to do it, but am usually on a group ride or heading somewhere and haven't had a chance.

I'd heard it can be wet/muddy in the canopy areas...and might be gnarly for a big DS bike in spots. But what the hell, those knobs are almost worn off...and it's time to man up.

The areas in the redwoods and under canopies were just damp. Awesome riding.

One section of uphill, off-camber, diagonally rutted, switchbacks was kinda hairy though. It's the kinda thing where you know that if you stop, you aren't gonna get a foot down or get started again without sliding into a big rut. Ugh.

Gas it and go...made it. Phew.

This is the north end of Old Coast where it comes back in and meets Highway 1 at the Bixby Bridge.

I aired up again at the highway and headed on home to Palo Alto.

Nice ride! A little traipse to check out the TKCs in the dirt turned into a really memorable trip.

Hope y'all had fun and are inspired to get out there and ride around (especially Titus).

Here are the TKCs after that trip. They have about 2,000 miles on them now. Almost Burned Off.

That's all kids. Now get off my lawn!

Absolutely true.

However, Rhyolite is in Nevada. And the guy who did the art out there is Belgian.

So Californians seem a little less off now, no?
