how would one get VIN verified without illegally driving to cop and/or DVM?
car would have to be trailered .. then DVM will not like fact you are registering in another state.

Hello all!

Tried to scan the last 32 pages to see if this has been asked and I am not sure:

I have a 2002 KTM 400 EXC, no title. My goal is to get the thing plated so I can connect trails. I do not care about transferring to my state (I would continue to renew).

Has anyone had success with a bike over 300cc AND newer than 15 years old? If so, what additional paperwork is required?

-Bill of sale (does this need to be notorized?
-VT DMV Forms
-Reg. fees + tax

Thanks!

Ian

Non-titled cages (15+ years old) don't need a VIN check. That's only for titled vehicles or non-titled motorcycles 500cc and up. Don't ask me why they do it that way.

You're not going to get anywhere with that. A 2002 400cc bike needs a title in Vermont just like it does in Maryland (and every other state except possibly Rhode Island). Without a title, VT will just send your stuff back, at least until 2017 when that bike's 15 years old. Sorry.

I've been getting the run around from my state DMV, so i'm going to try this. My bike is an '81 XS650, so I got a vin verification the other day from my local LEO, called VT dmv to get the tax amount for my bike, and I've got everything ready to send off. Just waiting on my paycheck.. sucks being a broke student.

If it works just fine, I'll use the same method to get registration for my honda ct110 and get it usable outside of town. (my town thinks it's a moped and never ask any questions)

Mcgreggerson screwed with this post 04-10-2014 at 06:45 PM Reason: adding stuff and fixing speeleng erorrs.

Great news Greg. I hope to have similar good news next week.

I hope you do as well Mark. Now all I need is about 500 round-to-it's to finish restoring my 78 DT250

Good luck to all that have applied or have future plans to apply too
