Common to have two different types of wheels R80g/s

I noticed today I have Akront front and Weinmann rear. Kind of odd, did they come from the factory like this?

Mine has Akronts front and rear with the little oval green sticker. As far as I know that is the stock setup.

Weird... I have no idea how a bike with only 50k on it can not only have two different wheels, but also a toasted harness. I would love to know the actual history of these bikes. The rear wheel was probably hit or damaged at some point resulting in a needed replacement. R80, /5 and /6 rims I believe fit the G/S hub.

I think EVERY bike should come with a USB or memory chip and have their entire history embedded on them.

I have no ill feelings towards any PO as they were as probably clueless as I, but for my own knowledge for repair and otherwise a complete picture would be cool.

I never noticed the different wheels and have no idea how that happened. It is strange since there really isn't much evidence of abuse on the rest of your g/s.

I know...wierd. You said the lawyer did take it off road a lot. The valve covers were scratched pretty good, crash bars tweaked, shifter tweaked and re-welded, some good hits on the bottom of the frame/center stand and subframe slightly cracked in the typical locations. He probably did something to it. At least it's getting fixed though. All the rough parts are getting blasted and powder coated as we speak

Eventually you're going to know the truth: Other PO's of your bike were Airhead Wrangler and One Less Harley. Both took the bike to Patagonia and back and had some trials and tribulations along the way. This is the only possible explanation. Oh, maybe Solo had it at some point as well... My bike has Akront's front and back.

Is it possible to even run a Carfax on a bike this old to see who all the US registered owners were? Not sure how far back it goes or when Carfax started, etc.. Is your bike a US model for sure?

It's not possible, though I know some of the history. The problem is on bikes, accidents almost never get reported. I should just contact the PO of the PO and ask him. I think I have some of his info on some paperwork. Would be nice to know the background

Why is it not possible? It's a motor vehicle, with a title, that's in the US and is registered. I've used Carfax before on a ton of old and new cars and it works. Are you sure it can't also be "Bikefax"? Anyone here have an account and can run the VIN of one of their bikes to see?

Or the PO may have had a couple sets of wheels/tires so he could switch between off road and street. And one day swapped out one wheel but not the other.

Or swapped out for a 19" ST wheel..lots of possibilities for parts to have been swapped out over the years....tranny, wheels, heads, speedos.

You never really know unless you can get the full history from day one.

I never guarantee anything, my days are generally not planned. If I get up and it's pouring I'll probably not go, but I'm looking on going just the same if it's nice.

In any case, here is the link
