Snotcicle Ride 2011: Steel Horses for Real Horses
For a brief history on this charity ride, you can see the planning thread and ride report for 2010 HERE and HERE, respectively. The planning thread for 2011 is HERE.
__________________________________________________ __________ Well, the 2nd annual Snotcicle charity ride went off without a hitch. We had great participation this year and many are deserving of thanks. ![]() First of all, many thanks to Tamie and the crew at AngelHorseRescue.org They are the selfless, charitable ones who take in wayward, orphaned, ill, or injured horses, nurse them back to health, and find permanent homes for them when possible. We just rode bikes and bought stuff. Please check out the Angel Horse Rescue website to see more detail about the great things they do. If you can manage, send them a modest paypal donation via their site. Also, many thanks are due to Tulsa Sportbike Riders for accompanying us on this event. We took separate routes but converged at AHR with a common goal. Thanks are due to Silver for his help organizing this group. We had at least 22 bikes participate (2 more than last year, so that's a plus), which included several faithful pillion riders too. The ADV participants included: RedDirtJoe HikryNut + girlfriend JumpJet LewisMedlock Dirt2007 Fotobo AdvRdrWannabe Newner RLC GMSnowball kd5pff + wife Scott (i.e. not Dave) Vinnie the Snake Unknown guy w/ Vinnie? Rufus FatBob DirtyDog No hay bales were carried this year, but AHR got a decent amount of useable supplies and donations from all. I think I had the largest cargo with a 5-gallon bucket of diet supplement, but others reached deep into their pockets and made a difference. __________________________________________________ __________ Here are some pics and videos from my perspective. Others will supplement with theirs. It's called the Snotcicle Ride because January in Tulsa, OK is typically miserable. Somehow, the weather was predicted to be unseasonably warm. We tried not to complain. ![]() Some of the Tulsa riders met at Tally's Cafe for breakfast. ![]() I had the healthy man breakfast including egg whites and grilled chicken. ![]() ![]() The breakfast club. We rode from there for several hours before making our way to AHR. ![]() At one of our secret riding spots, the BMW luggage proved to be a width limitation. Quick removal and we were on our way. ![]() ![]() FatBob and Dirt2007- team Husky. And they ride Husqvarnas too. ![]() I decided a crate was easier to secure than a bucket. ![]() Glad to see our wayward pals Alex, Katie, and Scott join us for the ride today. ![]() ![]() Newner carries a lead rope in a unique fashion- holding parts on his bike, the FrankenStrom. ![]() ADVRdrWannabe ![]() Jumpjet ![]() ![]() ![]() One of several moments where we were "lost". ![]() We were the first group to arrive at AHR, and were way too clean for my comfort. Last year it was cold, raining, and muddy. ![]() ![]() Shortly, we were followed by some of my family- mom, sis, brother in law, neice, and wife. Neice was causing trouble. ![]() ![]() AHR had moved some of their big trucks out of the barn so we had a nice place to gather and have lunch. ![]() My sister made a nice cake. ![]() LewisMedlock and friends never strayed far from the vintage Snap-On bikini clocks lining the barn. ![]() ![]() Rick found a friend. ![]() ![]() ![]() The MVP- grill cook. ![]() More riders have arrived. ![]() AHR organized some pony rides for the kids (and adults). ![]() ![]() ![]() Maverick, the newest horse, got some apples and carrots. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ATGATT. Where are the gloves for this TSR? ![]() Here is most of the group. ![]() After this, we dispersed. TSR made their way via pavement while a core group of ADV riders hadn't yet experienced enough dirt for the day. Led by Fotobo and Rufus, we explored some nearby trails on the banks of the Verdigris River. Awesome. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Note the riding styles- throttle finesse on the DRZ and bucking bronco on the KLR. ![]() The mighty WR is stalled and unable to start? ![]() Don't know why, but I always seem to be there when Ralph drops the bike. Sorry I missed your high-speed crash though. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Newner, LewisMedlock, Dirt2007, Jumpjet, and I celebrated our day with a round of beers at CJ Maloney's.

Worthwhile cause to say the least. Mankind is very much in debt to the horse. I give some of my time towards older horses , i feel more gain out of it than they do, but gee they light up when they see me coming. Well done!
