As a vetran of a couple CT's and as somewhat avid mountain biker, on these long rides I were a set of padded mountian bike pants liners (REI is a good source) You can buy the "road" type mountian bikes pants (favored by the spandex crowd) or you can buy just the liner seperately that would go under any pants. For me they seem to work quite well.

Also, Bryan past comments on first aid on the rides are key.
At a mountain bike race two weeks ago, a 38 year old rider on a race team suffered a full cardiac arrest on a 60 mile race in 28 deg weather. The riders behind him included a couple Grand Rapids MI EMT's and a Dr.. They performed compressions on him for 20 minutes until the EMS showed up and jump start his heart with with the defibulator. Without such help this guy was surley a goner.

Here is the full story, appologies if a little off topic, but the worst can happen any time

I prefer the thinner (cheaper) bike shorts, with a little padding, the super thick ones do feel diaperish. Even just spandex shorts work well. It's all about non-bunching material and perspiration control. That's also why "ball powder" is a must.

As we get into the standard tourist season, riders are going to find it hard to get a single night's lodging on a weekend as providers like to book a two night minimum. I understand their thinking because they potentially lose one night of a weekend by only booking one night. Keep this in mind. Might be better to plan to camp.

That might be a good plan for you guys. I am planning a trip to do the Lower Peninsula Dual Sport Safari in May and found this out on our Saturday night stay. That area is having a Mushroom Festival and even though they had rooms the hotel didn't want to give up three rooms for a Saturday night.

With no one else in the group wanting to camp I have had to adjust the route (shorted it) by 75 miles.

Everyone riding on a CannonRide will have a blast and see things you normally wouldn't, because of the time and dedication Cannon has put into his rides.

NWAT riders might be curious to see what is going on in Bayfield right now. The USCG is busting ice to open a lane for the ferry to run to Madeline Island. You can see part of the winter road across the ice in the background (marked by trees on the ice).

Dig the fan boat. Is that what they use to get kids back and forth to school this time of year?

Some CannonVets might recall a stop we would make at the Champion mine.

A Michigan State Policeman responding to a domestic violence call at a house there just shot and killed a 50 year old woman. She had a rifle and refused to put it down.

Are we gonna need studded tires for the ride? It's about a month away, and snowing to beat hell here in Minnesota!

I've had the DRZ on the road for about two miles this "spring". Other than that, it's been around the yard and up & down the driveway.

Sheesh! Whine, bitch, complain...

I anticipate that the opening day for some of the trails will be shifted from 1 May to a later date due to wet conditions. It shouldn't have any effect on this event.

Cannonshot,
I looks like you're gearing up for a cannon ride here shortly, after this coming ride when do you plan on the following ride? Would really like to partake in on one some time. How many rides do ya do a organize year? By the looks of it with work you put in to route planning, iton my to do list.
Not sure if ya recall me but I was the goofball ridding the xr650 with a gas can strapped to my back during last years shindig.
