The addition of a slipper clutch is great. I have one on my 07, and would miss it.

Any word yet on final drive failures?

Well it's ugly, but I'll take one. There goes my 1000 dollar Russell day long. I lined it up axel nut to axel nut and triple tree To triple tree crudely on Photoshop and the seat looks to be a good 2 inches shorter than a gs low seat on the old model

Looks like they ran out of room to put the 'all important' BMW logo.

That would be the FIRST thing to go to save weight.

Touratech's/Wunderlich's 'take' would probably be: We have a GUARD for that!

An additional coded plug enables the rider to access the "Enduro Pro" mode for more ambitious off-road riding. This setting provides significantly increased bottom-out reserves. In this mode - reserved solely for off-road use with knobby tyres - experienced motorcyclists can deliberately make the rear wheel of the R 1200 GS break out due to ASC intervention adjusted to very experienced off-road use. The ABS characteristics are specially adapted to this type of sporty use since control is specifically geared towards riding on loose surfaces with studded tyres. What is more, ABS does not act on the rear wheel when the rear brake is applied. Deactivation of the part integral function means that the front and wheel brake operate entirely separately from one another, in keeping with the preferences of an experienced off road rider, also allowing so-called initial brake drift before hairpin bends.

And when the coded plug is used, the individual Dynamic ESA setting is preserved over a change of riding mode. Without the coded plug all settings are set to default, e.g. when turning off the ignition. ABS and ASC can be manually disengaged by the rider in all modes. With the coded plug inserted, the systems remain deactivated when restarting the bike after having turned off the ignition before.
Emphasis added. Unfortunately, it appears you have to pony up for the Dynamic ESA option, with computer controlled dampers, in order to get this.

Imagine ... the front and [rear] wheel brake operate entirely separately from one another!!!!

In other news:

Same wheelbase, two-inch longer swingarm.

Full slipper clutch.

The ride-by-wire automatically keeps the throttles in sync between services.

Steeper steering head.

Narrower seat-tank junction.

Isn't it about the same as the current GS is rated?

Fuel consumption per 100 km at constant 90 km/h 57 mpg at a constant 56 mph (4.1 l)

Stylistically everything in front of the logo is going to take some getting used to or require modification. Everything in back of the logo looks pretty good. I like the new tank treatment and the seat looks narrower at the front for us shorties. The tech looks pretty good too but the slipper clutch can be a mixed bag in off-road riding. I'm sure there's more power in the motor and BMW usually is pretty conservative with their power figures anyway. Asphaltandrubber.com lists the weight at 525# without fuel. But the BMW press release states 238kg ready to ride. So it gained about 20#. I 'd suspect most of that is the clutch relocation and drive transfer.
