There was an out cry about the KLR650 08 using oil & no one really cares about something that cost 3 & 4 times (BMW) as much burning the same amount of oil for 20,000 miles.
My GS burns zero oil. Nothing at all. My R1100S used to burn almost a quarter each 1k miles.

Here are my whines...it doesn't resemble the old oilhead closely engough, it looks like it will be pretty noisy at cold start (whole engine is cast in 2 pieces), it will be too expensive and made in China? Oh no!

All I wanna know is.....what kind of oil does it use, synthetic or non-synthetic?
You are the perfect customer. You would accept anything BMW puts out and happily spend 20k plus to buy it. Also i apologize for posting on this thread with my whining. I now realize that my posts of what I would like to see or speculate are not acceptable in this FORUM. Thanks yours truly WHINER

The new bike will have a sensor that tells you when it's time to switch to synthetic.

Sounds pretty cool! Can't wait to see what it ends up looking like when finished. Thanks!

I really don't care what it "looks like" as long as it doesn't look like a turd.

I reckon when I wear out my 1200GS I'll buy one. I plan for that to be a "while." (wink)

Love the idea of this one though, and the new 2010/11's! Open to improvements, but happy with my "dinosaur" still!

Geez....................

The R12's don't seem to use oil

And the new Wasser Boxers will come with Synthetic from the get go as the new K16's do.

Good grief.

So, if the water-cooled GS actually becomes a reaity...

Can we call their sub-forum "Waterheads"? Please?

I spotted a copy of Bmw Motorcycle Magazine last night. It claims to have pics of the actual wet-head motor. Looks interesting. Case is split down the middle, water ports only on the heads. Speculation is Intermot 2012, release in Spring 2013. Writer expects 120-130 hp, better mileage. Not sure how that could be, but we'll see. Go to your local magazine rack and see if they have a copy. Their "spy shots" are the same ones already posted here, but the motor is supposed to be the real deal.

I've seen it. Photos of the motor in pieces, not assembled. IF it comes to pass, I am betting not before 2013, probably late in the year. Available in 2014.

I'm extremely curious what BMW will do and how and when they'll do it. Just how good will it be?

Here is a link: http://www.motorradonline.de/de/moto...1250-lc/365973

Mostly speculation and an iterview of Hendrik von Kuenheim, Director of BMW Motorrad, who tries to play it down by saying "I can assure you, we will stick to the air cooled boxer for years." and " The boxer, as it is designed today, can meet the future limits for exhaust and noise. It doesn't force us to water cooling.".
