From my dealer I heard that the dealer representative is going to Morocco in February for the big per-sale event for the R1200GS. I would at this point assume that press will be there, and the press will get their hands on the bikes to test and share the excitement with he attendees.

Yeap, Press event is Feb 27th I think and dealer event is something like March 7th and bikes to be available at dealers within a few weeks of that.

Nope, the press rollout is in Morocco on Feb 27th.

I just heard that BMW transmissions will no longer be made by Getrag and in the case of the new GS, it will be made by Honda. Never rode a Honda, but I hear they have good transmissions, can anyone else comment?

I had a call from the dealer today asking for confirmation of spec and colour. So this is what I've gone for:

Thunder Grey metallic
Cross spoke wheels
BMW alarm
Akropovic exhaust
BMW engine bars
Tinted screen
Full luggage (but I'm going to see what other luggage options there are from Touratech nearer the delivery date)

Release date in the UK is 3rd March 2013.

If true, that would show extremely good judgment on BMW's part.

The more Jap parts they put on these bikes (and the fewer German parts) the better!

Looking at the phantom pics of that new tranny, it really does look like something the Japanese could/would build.

Too bad they didn't get the japs to design & build the new FD's too!

Don't want to put a damper on your enthusiasm but I have had 3 Honda boxes fail and one yamaha and kawasaki box fail. Haven't had a BMW box fail although they are really clunky in operation they have held together for me.

No just badly setup boxes. Every one of them was damaged dogs because the gears weren't shimed properly or they had a design flaw in the case of the Honda's. I have broken more than that but they don't count because they were on the quarter mile so was expected. Nitros will do that lol.

I had a F800ST which the gears broke inside, you couldn't shift from 5th to 6th in the end.

In the EU anyway its because of old laws that they haven't removed. Construction and use says you need them so they have to put them in

No longer Gertrag is what I read a long time ago as well when BMW cancelled the agreement with Getrag but Honda? I kind of doubt it.
