So there are 2013's out and about in Canada? Quick recall, or is it based on some early euro bikes?

If it applies to the new GS, they are probably bikes in transit.

Good morning John,

I am responsible for technical support and recalls for Canada.

This recall is limited to the new R1200GS that will be launched in March. No previous generation air cooled models are affected. The actual number of affected motorcycles for Canada is 31. These motorcycles will all be addressed at the BMW retailers; therefore, no customer action or notification will be required.

Please let me know if you have any other questions.

Warm regards,

Good info. thanks for posting. Does anyone know how big of a job it is to replace that oil seal? I wouldn't want to have my brand new bike completely torn down.....hopefully its an easy fix.

Don't they "install an oil restrictor to reduce oil pressure at the transmission output"?
Where does this restrictor go and how does it look like? Curious.

Something like this

All oil should collect in the bottom of the oil reservoir, not anywhere else which when space is limited will increase space pressure...

Are you saying this restrictor will influence (lower) the complete engine oil circuit pressure?

Interesting. I've never seen a bent shock on a bike. Car/truck yes...

I don't know what and how new engine's oil circuit looks or constructed like... This new LC motor has wet clutch now and it must be in oil bath somewhat...

So it's just me thinking out loud

Sounds like you'd save a lot of money moving here.

Thanks. How did Transport Canada picked 31 bikes? Is that their job to check each and every bike that comes into Canada? . How do we know this stuff does not slip though for others WC. In fact BMW has same design for bikes that get delivered to other countries. I'm just say'n, ya know. Losing confidence.

I am getting nausea from hearing such info about WC. Patch list of fixes has already started even before the bike's get into customer's hands. I bet BMW will install pressure resistor on all bikes due to potential liability. There probably are other items that BMW has noticed that require a dealer fix for 2013 models, but won't say a word about it. BMW's stance is, "Customers, lets begin beta testing our new and improved WC, your feedback is important to us to provide a better GS."

I'm sure this information is from BMW and not an issue discovered by Canadian authorities. BMW most likely informed them that 31 bikes in Canada (in transit perhaps) require the fix. Each country has different laws about recalls, so it's possible that there won't even be a recall in some countries, perhaps just an internal service campaign by BMW.

But I agree, it is concerning to have an issue with the bike already, in addition to the other issue mentioned by journalists which I dare not speak for fear of being shouted down.
