Is the
Yamaha Warrior engine the same or close to the BW engine? |

The Warrior uses the same cylinder and top end. The bottom end is completely different and I don't think the Big Bear engine would be a reasonable substitute for the BW engine because the bottom end and intersects the cylinder at a completely different angle.
The CDI for the Big Bear 350 seems like it should have a similar ignition curve and advance. However, none of the connectors are plug-and-play. This is the BW350 cdi: ![]() and a closer view of the connectors: ![]() Here's the Big Bear's CDI: ![]() and some of the Big Bear connectors: ![]() They are clearly not compatible. However, someone clever with redneck electronics might be able to splice together a cure for the Cdi Malady. Any takers? Regards, Mr. BigWheel

A few months ago truckinwagen had a 200 running on a Chinese cdi. His motor was on it's last legs and gave out as the experiment was in progress. It is definitely a possibility, but trying to find one with an ignition curve that will not cause detonation or preignition will be the challenge. There is even the possibility that the cdi contributed to the demise of truckinwagen's engine.
The 200 owners are starting to get desperate as they scramble to get one of the remaining working cdi's. Right now a timely solution would be awesome. Are you up to the challenge, jaubuchon? The BW world awaits. Regards, Mr. BigWheel

I wonder if a TW200 Cdi would work on a bw200?

Hey everyone! Found this site after googling BW200 forums. I've had my BW200E for just over a year and love it. Been riding it alot this past summer and fall. It's in really good shape for 1986. I've spent all afternoon reading 49 pages of great info but was surprised to not read anything about aftermarket slipon pipes for the BW. I've been searching the web and EBay and found that an FMF Powercore4 will work on the BW200. I emailed FMF and they replied by saying that their pipe is the same as the pipe that fits a TW200. Although they have never fitted one on a BW. The FMF part number is 044312. A couple online MX stores have also stated that the pipe fits a BW. I'm so tempted to order a slipon from my local MX store but wanted to hear from some other members. Thanks!

Can anyone come up with an electrical schematic of the C.D.I. for 200's and the 350's??
has anyone opened one up ? I just realised there is one on my parts bike but i need to see if it's good before doing an autopsy on it.. I have an Uncle who is quite the circutry genius and might be able to talk him into at least consulting on a kit or a full replacement with hopefully upgraded / more current (I.E.dependable) components ...if i can get a schematic to send him.. heck..if it was made once it CAN be replicated...and better ?? |

Sticker,
Welcome aboard. The FMF pipe DOES NOT fit the BW200 without some modification. It is a bolt-on proposition for the TW but requires the fabrication of a mounting bracket to fit to the BW. It would be worth the effort if you can pull it off though. RWBWheel, I have attempted to take a CDI apart and have determined the same thing that a bunch of others have: a) It's a lot of work because the circuitry is encapsulated in either a potting compound or reeeeeeaaaallllly tough silicone (mine was silicone) b) The circuit board will most likely get trashed getting the silicone or compound off. It may be difficult to determine what vacuum tubes and transistors were used if they are damaged during removal of the goo. c) The potting compound or silicone will most likely have to be dissolved in a highly toxic, carcinogenic chemical solution to preserve the integrity of the circuit boards d) You should limit your beer intake when trying to slice silicone off of circuitry with a razor blade (I don't know if anyone else actually determined this one. I may be on the "cutting edge" on this one. Ha! There was a member on the BW Yahoo Groups who was working on the issue.
style="border: 0px;"alt="Click to join YAMAHABIGWHEELS"/> Click to join YAMAHABIGWHEELS He was posting some encouraging x-ray images of the internals of the CDIs, but we haven't heard much lately. It can't be impossible to find a CDI replacement. It's just going to take more beer than we have thrown at the project so far. Regards, Mr. BigWheel

This is a listing of the models of bikes that use the same CDI as the venerated xt350. I think that the XT350 would be a likely donor model for a replacement BW350 cdi. Please enjoy the listing:
MODELS: DT100K - 1983 DT50L - 1988 DT50LC - 1988 DT50LC - 1989 DT50LC - 1990 DT50U - 1988 DT50W - 1989 DT80J - 1982 ENDURO - DT50A - 1990 RX50K - 1983 RX50L - 1984 RZ350L - 1984 RZ350N - 1985 RZ350NC - 1985 RZ350NCII - 1985 XT250K - 1983 XT250KC - 1983 XT250L - 1984 XT250LC - 1984 XT350 - XT350M - 2000 XT350 - XT350MC - 2000 XT350A - 1990 XT350AC (CA ED.) - 1990 XT350B - 1991 XT350BC - 1991 XT350D - 1992 XT350DC (CA ED.) - 1992 XT350E - 1993 XT350EC (CA ED.) - 1993 XT350F - 1994 XT350FC (CA ED.) - 1994 XT350G - 1995 XT350GC (CA ED.) - 1995 XT350H - 1996 XT350HC (CA ED.) - 1996 XT350J - 1997 XT350JC - 1997 XT350K - 1998 XT350KC - 1998 XT350L - 1999 XT350LC - 1999 XT350N - 1985 XT350NC (CA ED.) - 1985 XT350S - 1986 XT350SC (CA ED.) - 1986 XT350T - 1987 XT350TC (CA ED.) - 1987 XT350U - 1988 XT350UC (CA ED.) - 1988 XT350W - 1989 XT350WC (CA ED.) - 1989 YSR50A - 1990 YSR50B - 1991 YSR50D - 1992 YSR50T - 1987 YSR50U - 1988 YSR50W - 1989 UNIT ASSEMBLY CONTROL YAMAHA # 4Y3-85590-M0 Remarkably, there is the four stroke 350 xt, a 250 four stroke, an 80cc two stroke, a 50cc two stroke pit bike and one of the world's most awesome bikes ever: the Kenny Roberts RZ350 two stroke, twin cylinder street bike, which uses the engine from the Banshee. Does that seem like a possible cdi for just about any bike out there? Should we try wiring one up or should I just contact schattat and avoid the entire piston-melting scenario? Regards, Mr. BigWheel

Yes thats a crazy application list for sure.
I now realize that the schattat on adv is Tony, i think thomas is his dad. Anyway they are both yamaha nuts in the rally arena and tony can probably be of help, he's the one building the rally computers.... There is also Ignitech in Europe for aftermarket CDI http://www.ignitech.cz/english/poptavka.htm |

Good thing the dollar is doing so well against the Euro.
