I hope so wing nut. Just pulled the Carb off the 80 and found this. As I was cleaning it found that the Carb body is worn through. Trying to decide whether to spend $100 on a factory Carb or $25 for chinese. Kinda leaning toward factory. I have $1700 in the 350 and 80. Probably need to replace the tank on the 350 leaker (supposedly available from Yamaha parts warehouse for $300 so estimated total cost for two ice big wheels is $2,300.

Deaver,

You purchased a skid plate from DC Plastics? I didn't think that they made any metal parts. If they do make a skid plate, please post a review.

I was hoping that one of these TM Designworks skid plates would work on the BW, but it doesn't seem too realistic:

Florida Mark,

I just installed a Chinese carb on the 80. It was $23, including shipping to Alaska. It was not a perfect replica of the original carb (the hose from the oil injector had to be lengthened) but the bike ran well without any jetting adjustments. I hate buying Chinese junk, but this carb is probably found on 100 million scooters in Shanghai alone, so they can probably built one that will last at least a little while.

Regards,

Mr. BigWheel

anybody know what this is. I have a small oil leak here. It started after I hit a rock. forgot that I didn't have a skid plate. hence why I ordered one. no real damage, maybe this rubber looking hose got moved outa place. any case WTF is it?

Took the BW200 out for the first time since the rebuild, still need to do some tuning with it as it always seems to stay in gear.. down to just the small stuff now thankfully, had the case split over the winter to replace the kickstarter.

Deaver,

Is that a picture of your magneto cover? Is the oil coming out of the hole in the cover?

There shouldn't be any oil in there, so that is an odd place to have a leak from, unless there is some hidden damage to the center cases.

my new toy

Its an 1985 bw 200, i got it for trail riding, and messing around camp at the dunes. I'm a quad guy but always liked big wheels so i finally bought one. I just got done refreshing it. it had a brand new cdi when I bought it but everything else needed attention!!!!.....repairs so far new tires, chains, handle bars, levers, cables, rebuild the forks, carb, air filter, seat cover, foot pegs, and general care. she runs pretty good now :-)

hey welcome to the forum, nice to see new blood. I'm a quad guy myself, I own a can am renegade 800. no dune riding just trail and rock climbing. I was never a dirtbike lover, had a Suzuki DR 200 to just try it out. fuckin sucked on the trails here, tires were too narrow and felt like I was gonna kill myself. Stumbled onto pic or tread about the BW 350 and found one online bout 3000km away was the closest and only one available on kijji all over Canada. your lucky it has a new cdi, expensive if ya can find them.

What tires did you buy and can you do a review, it'd be a super post. lots of great info on here, check out the yahoo big wheel forum too.
