I picked up my AFX 39 yeterday and put in a full day of riding with it. I also have the previous 37 model and will say the fit is way better, I had to sand some out of the forehead area on thge 37 and it was still a bit of a wonky fit. It rained alot on my ride and it seemed to do well.
The good so far - fit is great - way less lift on peak at speed then 37 - liner is nicer than 37 - rachet strap is handy -vents seem good and have open/closed option the not so good - ractchet strap is a bit big, I know its good and bad : - eyeport is smaller than 37 or standard MX helmet, still ok but a bit smaller - we,ll see how venting is in very hot weather - tough to keep 2 or 3 position visor just "cracked" - havent figured my sunglasses fit yet So far I really like it, its a steal at $114 +/-, even though I did like the 37 , so far this one seems miles better as far as quality and build goes.....so far, one day in  Anyway, I had good service from the 37 and this one seems even better, so id reccomend the AFX, a baragin helmet with good quality IMO. Cheers, Todd

I wear it with sun glasses most of the time in the heat. I just did a 650 mile run to deals gap and back, cool mountain air, dirt roads, rain, twisty pavement, lots of sun. Its not as cool as my MX lid but, its so much better overall on long distance DS rides.
Its hard to keep the shield cracked in the rain, I need to make a hold open for it. They used to sell the little buggers but, I haven't seen the little plastic hold open blocks in a long time. |

Glad I stumbled on this thread, I was looking to replace my XD with an ICON variant but this AFX looks like a good option as well. Does anyone know how the shape compares to the XD? I have had a couple Arai's but really would like to try something else and man are they pricey!

AFX calls it a long oval shape. It is so, so hard to do precise descriptive comparison between helmets, so I will leave others to give their feedback. In general, some products (helmets included) are challenging to fit over the web (ex: KBC) and others easy to fit over the web....high success rate, low returns, etc. The FX-39s are easy, IF you measure and follow the AFX size chart (see post 153).
Hope that helps. BP |

I just wanted to say that I ordered this helmet from Atomic Moto, and I could not be more pleased! Brian called me to say that the XXL Red Strike model I ordered was not in stock earlier this month...and that they would be receiving the first shipment of them soon. I have a big head, and my XXL HJC is really tight on me. This helmet is like night and day difference. It is so comfortable, and for the first time I actually have a helmet that fits.
I'll definitely be ordering more from Atomic Moto - I read about them from this thread, and they are very professional and reasonably priced.

Trekker vs FX-39 differences?
Quote:
I see here that one is a D ring while the other is ratcheted. And see there's slight cosmetic differences. Is there anything else? Fit? Ventiliation?

Apart from that and the strap system, the other differences are cosmetic. BP |
