New Zealand-South Island

Ok, after seeing Sideways pictures of NZ, here are some pictures of my 2 week tour of the south island of NZ. Kate and I put on almost 3K miles riding 2 up on a 1150GS.
Here we are east of Christchurch the first day while getting used to riding on the left side of the road.

Just north of Dunedin on the east coast

Kate and the GS by Lake Pukaki with Mt. Cook in the background.

The road to Dunedin

Mt. Cook-12,000'

Sunrise on Lake Wakatipu-Queenstown

Highway 6 on the west coast

Lake Rotoroa

Moeraki Bay, one of the many lunch stops

Too bad it's so damn far away...right underneath the turf I'm standing on
Any hobbits along the road?

Gorgeous photos.

My wife and I are thinking about doing the same trip. Which group did you go with? Were you happy with them? Thanks.

Thanks,
We did a Beach tour and they were great. They use Te Waipounamu Motorcycle rentals out of Christchurch where you could rent a bike and do a tour on your own. At the time I only had 2 weeks vacation, but to make it worth while you really need to take 3 weeks or more.

I went with these guys, and one of their 20 day semi guided tours, and was very happy: http://www.nzbikes.co.nz/

Last I checked Air NZed had added direct flights into Christchurch from LAX.

Once you figure out to look "right" before you pull out, it goes a lot better. It helps to have some traffic around, otherwise you tend to go down the wrong side.
