AJ,
Happy Thanksgiving! Heal up 'bro! The 'ol XR is coming back to life: subframe is now pointing back where I've been instead of at the rider off to the right. Pipe got heat 'n beat Monday, bolts right up like it came off the Honda OEM shelf. Just labor and dressing the wiring is keeping this bike from pounding the dirt (and me) again! Gonna do a mudfest ride Friday on the 2-smoke, at least until I hypotherm-out! Burn off some of that pumpkin pie, woot!

![]() I'm so glad I have my immediate family close by to share this day with. But if I didn't, I'd be stepping up to my ADV family..... ....and taking advantage of some of the generosity offered on this forum ![]() Glad to hear the XR is close to taking it's next breath. XRs, like an old Muscle Car, desrve to live forever

Turkey Day ride
This year I decided to forgo traditional Turkey Day festivities and head out on a much needed solo ride. I first headed up FR4610 but ran into some pretty ugly snow (expected) around 3500ft. At the point of it not being fun anymore, I turned around and decided to make an attempt at making it to Timothy Lake before the seasonal snow has it isolated. I headed out on Pipeline Rd and then on to 57 and pretty much had the road all to myself, which was a good thing because the ol XR needed that old gas blown out. Lots of purdy waterfalls along the way thanks to all the rain over the past week and even snow up at Timothy, but it was passable and I made it. No kidding, as I pulled up to Timothy Lake, a Bald Eagle flew right over my head, and that pretty much put the icing on the cake. I hung out for a bit and enjoyed the silence over the water pouring over the spillway and then headed home the way I came.
Here are a few pics I took along my route to therapy: Here's a little wooden bridge that had lots of water going under it and a pipeline with even more ![]() A pretty cool water intake into Frog Lake. Lots of engineering going on ![]() I made it! Punctuation counts ![]() Lots of waterfalls to pose next to

Good photos FL, haven't seen that Frog lake intake, will have to get up there.
I was up on Lolo pass late yesterday, it is passable, but snow on the ground from the 3K level.

Got the 950 out on Sat. after making a few changes.
And by the way, the new Moose Racing low windshield for the 950 / 990 is a pain in the A**! it needs heavy modifications, or at least the one I got did! but after getting it worked out it makes a big difference on the windscreen turbulence!![]()

Nice ride, Fertile Lies! !!!
I've never seen the Frog Lake intake either. I helped the Frog Lake Campground Host try to get his one-wheel-drive P/U unstuck from the snow, unsuccessfully, one day last March. Craig, I JUST bought a Moose windscreen (to replace my rather broken one). I haven't received it yet, so we'll see......

Has to be one of the worst after market part fits I've seen! I spent two hours grinding out the fit around the headlight. I could have taken it off the bike one more time and done just a bit more but called it good before I broke something....It will be interesting to see if yours is a better fit. But on the up side, the air flow is much better and the buffeting that came off the old wind screen is gone!

Nice ride weekend!
Thanks guys. I always like finding interesting, unexpected stuff like that while out exploring. From some other pictures of that intake, it looks like it's usually further underwater.
Lolo looks like it was a great choice for today. Very jealous. Now it's time for me to look for my 3rd seat for my XR to be able to survive 120+ mile days. Need something a bit wider, or learn to stay off my butt more.

xr seat
FertileLies:
I know it's expensive but the Renazco seat made my XR very comfy! I did the same thing you did: Stock seat sucks, bought another base got hard foam plus 1" and a SDG cover, better but still sucked, finally bit the bullet and sent in the seat pan to Renazco! Awesome. I'm 6'2" and so I went with a 1-1.5" height increase for ergonomics and the rally in full suede. I wanted a stiff seat and It was built perfectly! Expensive addition to the bike but I have ridden several 450 mile plus days with no reservations that my ass would yell at me about! Seat concepts is another option, but I have no seat time on one to give you any input! The only advice is save the SDG seat for the really nasty days rain and mud and use the renazco for the nicer ones, I sold my extra seat and regret it for the crappy days, BTW the renazco does not mind the rain and mud it just looks well worn after a few thousand miles.... well maybe more than that! The more your off road the more you will stand so it helps a bit...

Did a little trip around Mt Hood this afternoon, saw everything from sunshine, to snow to a monsoon on the way home!
