I think it's going to be a ride home on 84 or maybe 14 on the WA side tonight.

Laugh Guess what!

It's a little deep still....

Had to check out Barlow Rd.

And then around to White River.

And now for the "good news" Rd. 48 is kind of open as of 6:30pm tonight! This is just a 1/2 mile from Hwy 35.

When I took the above photo I was thinking that I knew that Bronco and sure enough I did! An old Moto racing friend of mine from Hood River. He had just come from the far corner of the photo were the road was clear of snow, literally 100 yards of snow and he just drove across it (First one). I could have waded my way though it down hill but I don't think I would have made it back up and would have had to go home though The Dalles.

So a couple more hot days and 48 to Wamic should be good to go!

Wonder if that snow will be clear on Barlow for the Black Dog.

John grew up here in the valley, I used to go to all the desert races East of Bend with him and a couple other guys from Hood River back in the 70's & 80's.

He had just been into Badger Lake this weekend with that Bronco, said he had a hard time getting out due to the snow getting a little soft. He runs like 5 lbs. on the snow and can go just about anywhere! He has an on board air compressor and was pumping them back up when I ran into him.

Into Badger? Nice!
So Craig, whadaya think my chances are of riding into FS48 from Hwy 26, via FS43?
I got some work down near Wamic I have to check out this Thursday,
....and I really don't wanna ride all the way down 197, if I can ride the forest instead

By Thursday I would think you could just go down 48 from 35. The snow on 48 was literally just what you can see in the photo and he (John) just drove across it in a Bronco! If not I can't imagine there is any snow on 43. I'll go check it out for you?

I think I'll stop in at the FS to ask. Online it says 48 is open up to 43 from the Wamic side, but didn't actually say 43 was open

Besides, I gotta complain, the green gate at the Ketcham end of John's Mill Rd was closed still, and it's Seasonal Closure was supposed to be over April 1. Ketcham had the Rally run it about two hours before I did last night, so they had all the loose stuff swept off the road for some SWEET low dust traction. Good deal, 'cause my back 908 is wearing pretty thin...

The HR end of John's Mill Rd at 1711 was open, though, and all the treefall that had blocked John's Mill last month had been cleared by locals in side x sides, it appeared.
I'm betting they weren't carrying the Motor Vehicle Forest Use maps that they were violating...

FS website said still snow at 8 miles up, for what little that is worth. I was thinking I'd ride that back from Wamic. I'll have turnaround time after my morning interview appt. Maybe come in from Friend, past 15 Mile CG.

Rode over from the Oregon Trail Rally in Dufur yesterday and it was clear all the way, just some snow in the ditch on top

The elusive Abbot Road Double Skunk

Well, mi amigo(PDX KLR RIDER) & I figured we'd scout Abbott Road today, hoping for some views to the North. But, alas, it was not to be. Ran into snow just short of 3600ft. We were still on the south side of the ridge and could hear water down below. Eyeballing the topo, that would put us just around the corner from LookOut Springs. Was hoping for spectacular views with all the summery-ness down in the valley. I think the melt is just getting going up there, 'cause the road was dusty a 100 yds before the snow.

It's a Double Skunk because we tried to get on to Abbott from the North, via Tumala Road and the Fanton area, but the sign expressly prohibits the fun things in life, such as motos and Jeeps. Oh well..
