Trying to talk Rob into coming--it's his last weekend before deployment; I'm not sure if he's got duty.

If our schedules allow, we'll come.

Tell Rob if he can make it, this old Marine will buy him a drink.

I know the other RTE's were a bit far for you. Good things come to those who wait!
To bad I can't be there....

Far ain't the problem. I have had serious issues with the VA authorities so it doesn't take much to talk me out of it.

Count me in!

Did a "pre-ride" Thursday; found Wardensville charming and interesting; some fascinating images and information at the Visitor's Center (will be open 'til 4:00 p.m. Saturday).

Some construction restricting traffic to one lane on Main Street, but . . . in Wardensville, given the traffic density at the time . . . ain't no THANG!

Approached down from the Woodstock Tower; departed up through Gore, VA; lots of good roads and scenery thereabouts.

Looking forward to a good ride, meal, and visit Saturday!

Cool2 I think I'm confirmed, maybe, we'll see . . . .

At this point on the galactic space-time continuum, it appears that both Rob and I can make it. Though RFP's do have a habit of coming out on Friday . . . .

At least Rob doesn't have duty the last weekend before his bird farm is haze gray and underway for 6 months.

Thanks a million for the "route sheet," bwalsh!

The scenery was glorious, the route intriguing, and all roads in good condition.

Unfortunately, I (we, actually; my wife and I in her car) did not have time to ride the complete route. GPS may know what it's doing, but . . . I doubt even Travis Pastana could ride the segment from Route 66/522 to Woodstock to Columbia Furnace to Wardensville in only two hours! (Of course, we lost some road time, hiking to the Woodstock Tower, but the trek was worth it!)

After visiting Wardensville, we went north on Route 294 to Route 50, returning to "the Beltway" on Route 50.

My plan: Return alone on a dual-sport and ride the complete route you provided.

Thanks again, and here's hoping for the same weather of yesterday and today for tomorrow!

If you are coming in from 50 via Gore, go back a couple of miles and take Back Mountain Road. Very nice road, outstanding scenery, lots of twisties. If you don't have a GPS, let me know and I can give you a turn-by-turn.

I've been on Back Creek Road north from Capon Springs. Very pretty country. That part was paved; from 55 to Capon Springs, past the USFS campground, was not.

You mean Back Creek Rd.? That's the route I suggested to him.

Actually I'll share the route. Maybe some other folks coming from NOVA would like to ride it too...

If you don't mind a suggestion to make things more interesting...take Fort Valley road(the same road we met at the parking lot on for the Elkton RTE) South to a right on Boyer Rd. Go straight, West(Boyer makes a sharp left here) onto Mine Gap Rd. There is an old Furnace on the right side of the road just up from Boyer and Mine Gap. Follow Mine Gap West then South to the end and a right on Woodstock Fire tower rd.
Stop at the top of the mountain and walk about 100 yards South to the tower. Continue down the mountain on Woodstock tower Rd., which turns into Cemetery Rd., which turns into Lupton Rd., which turns into Hollingsworth Rd.
At the stop sign take a left onto South water St. then the next Right onto Indian Springs Rd which will take you out to Rt 11. Take a left on Rt 11 and go to Rt 42 West at the Sheetz store
.
Take Rt 42 west out of Woodstock about six miles to Columbia Furnace and a right on Back Rd. Go to the bottom of the hill(about 200 yards) and take a right onto Wolf Gap road Follow Wolf Gap rd over the mountain. It turns into Trout Run Rd in WV. That goes into to Wardensville. After a nice easy reverse curve there is another Furnace over the embankment directly on the right side of the road but there is no good place next to it to stop. When you come into Wardensville I believe you take a right and the restaurant is on the right in the first block. That should take a couple hours to complete.
After lunch head North on Rt 259 to a right on Capon Springs Rd, to a left on Back Creek Rd and take that all the way to Rt. 50 just West of Gore Va.
That would make a very nice ride to and from the RTE.

Bonus tip if it's still there...and it probably will be.
