GPS Map software & Mac users
I'm researching GPS options, and it seems like I'm screwed being an Apple Macintosh kind of guy when it comes to the various mapping software programs that are Garmin compatible.
Does anyone here use a Garmin with a Mac, or is that impossible at this time?

Hey your not a windows user, so I'm inclined to cut you some slack for having good taste in computers, not to mention motorcycles.

GPS & Macintosh
I use a GPS V with serial to usb and Virtual PC 6.01
Mac is a cube with a 1.25GHZ G4, 832 mb ram so VPC has plenty room. connection is the Garmin serial hooked into a Keystone serial to usb. Works great. Ping me off line if you need specifics. Never ask a man what PC he uses. If it's not a mac, why embarass him. If it is a mac he'll be offended you couldn't tell...

Mac GPS
I have Route66 USA and National Geographic Backroads Explorer for mac (iBook). With a keyspan serial to USB adapter, you can get GPS information to load onto your mac. Going the other direction (uploading waypoints to the GPS) is problematic though. The iBook is a pretty decent companion for touring as its small (12" version is anyway), has a long battery life 4-5 hrs of real life use, and doesnt pull much power when attached to a cigarette lighter (about 30-40 watts).
