Does your bike need to be running to power the brake light? i can't get my brake light to work. I have a brand new assembly in there and it still doesn' work.

Of course I put the new tail light on that bike along with my cut subframe and seat. I have never had light issues. I blew out my rear shock and bottomed out alot and still no issues. Better suspension now on the 2004 SXC. Light works fine, does not flicker. Have not blown any bulbs. Everything is tight. The bulb is tight in socket, socket tight in housing, housing firmly mounted in fender. I have purchased 3 of these bikes (I part out bikes), one did have a loose socket where it did rattle around some.

cross my fingers that it works out. i hate wasting money, especially when i dont have any....
UPDATE....

well i should have know this wasn't going to be easy. never is.....

i can report that the acerbis fender that i ordered above WILL NOT fit our bikes. it's not even close.

i have Chip searching the depths of KTM trying to get me the part number for the OEM LC4 SM fender. it was offered at some point in the hard parts catalog and did not include the rear tailight like all the other LC4 fenders. who knows if he is gonna be able to come up with anything though. i have found a CF piece, but frankly im not that interested and will use it as a last resort.

the tailight on the other hand has possibilities.

while waiting to see if i can get a SM fender that will fit, i decided to play around with what i had....

here are a few shots of what i have in mind. if it works out, i will post up another "how to" that lays out all i had to do. but for now, just a teaser....

i think it might just work.......

Here is what I have come up with......It's not quite finished yet, but it's cheap and mainly involves some labour. I was not sure how it would work out, so one of the priorities was not destroying the original taillight/fender.

Take one Grote Semi trailer LED taillight.....grind it down to fit inside where the stock light goes......fashion a retainer.....and you have a super bright light.........

Like I said, it's not complete yet..........but this is the work in progress.............

cheers

not bad Drop, i actually played with the idea of just mounting the taillight i got onto the top of the fender as well. i just couldn't decide what i'd do with the big hole...

this may, or may not work out but im not too worried about it. i got that orange fender when i bought all my plastics and had no use for it anyways. might as well chop it up and see what happens. if i like the way it works, then i may try to replicate it again on the black plastics i have on the bike now. if not, i just keep looking....

it's gonna be a few more weeks before i get anything more done but when i do i'll post some pics. i have to replace my base gasket again, so the engine is coming out as well as the entire subframe/airbox to do some welding.

laters,

laramie

Cruiser;
Some good idea's on that thread, but most of the fenders are cut too short for off road use.

I am hoping to get a used fender for experimenting.......I did not want to cut up my original.

Once I have the used one, I hope to remove the lower section that holds the original taillight........then cut the light hole larger so I can install the Semi's light complete.

It comes with a pop in retainer that would be bolted to the fender. That would make a bulb change easy.

I'll post more photo's once I have the fender installed, but that might take a while as a carb rebuild is more pressing.

Cheers

Cruiser;

That's a great offer! Is your fender the same as mine on my 2007 Adventure? If so.......let's do a deal!

Cheers

yup, that's what i thought i was gonna hear. sometime even KTM will surprise ya! after not being able to find it for soooo long, and even having Chip looking for it as well, i figured it was gonna be an "unavailable" item if we ever did find it. in fact a few places ive looked since, still have it listed as unavaiable, so we will see once it's in my hands....

on a sad note though, i think i may have killed another engine. she was making some funny noises yesterday at the end of the ride. still ran fine, but a definite new noise....
