Anyone using the Nolan X551 helmet??

Thinking about getting another helmet and was looking at the Nolan X551 as it has the internal sun shield. Can't seem to find one in the US, so will have to mail order for overseas.
Before I do that, was curious if anyone has had a chance to use one or at least try one on? Any impressions would be gratefully appreciated.
TIA,
Bill

I got one, but still waiting my bike, so no riding advice...
But static, I like the way it feels. It has pinlock from factory, visor/peak could be adjusted, weight is about 1600g. I'm wearing glasses and found no problem with.

Will be interested to hear more about it.

I tried it on today and it had really narrow fit. Once past the narrow entry it felt comfortable. But was literally pain to put on.

Hesitating between that and Shoei Qwest which felt really nice and plush.

Nope. I do more motorway miles than off-road so the DS style would be pure form over function choice :)

All,
I appreciate the information. Being in the States - we are somewhat limited on access to this helmet

Jack,
For comparison - what are the other helmets that you generally wear?
Thanks,
Bill

I'm still agonizing with my choice :)

web-bike world has a piece on X-551 - they liked it.

I wear a street oriented one at the moment - Lazer Dayton - ok helmet but not brilliant one.

I think I will go with X-lite -> I like the look of it very much and will get rid of the visor (peak) when doing tarmac miles...

x-551

I too am liking the x-551, I understand there is no action anytime soon to seek DOT approval. Is that really a big deal to a U.S. rider? Would the police really be likely to check? thanks, Jerry

The police, I would not care... the insurance company after a crash, I would.....

The X-551 is available here in Canada (Quebec) on their distributor website and DOT is requested here. So it is probably DOT approved but can't confirm.

Coming from Germany, so we wait...

Received the X-551 yesterday from FC-Moto.de/.
Out of the box it looks nice and I did not expect the pinlock shield to be included, nice surprise.
Wore it for two rides now and in comparison to my Arai XD-2 - (no particular order) -
1) Better peripheral vision
2) Much better vents (my Arai vents were failing and would constantly rattle)
3) Quieter
4) The sunshield is nice, almost worth the price of admission for me. No more on with the helmet, on with the sunglasses, off with the sunglasses, off with the helmet. Note on glasses - I do not wear correction glasses however I tried wearing sunglasses under the sunshield to simulate. No problems or interference, glasses are fine with this helmet.
5) Detents on the face shield are nice.
6) The visor is adjustable.
7) Could be a bit of a tight on/off for some as the opening is oval.
So far, I really like the helmet. We'll see if this continues as the newness wears off. Only negative I can think of at this time is the huge-ness of the X-lite logo (front and back). It is not just a decal as clear has been painted over it.
