F'n Headlight
I have a 91 gspd and I am replacing the headlight assembly. It is a pain in the ass. I got it in and had to fab a few plastic thingy majigers to hold the assembly to the mounting frame........blah blah blah.
I want to position it correctly. I understand how to do it but, I would like to know where to line it up. Example: I am sitting on the bike, no stand or side stand, center of the light lines up with center of bike on a vertical plane. On a horizontal plane the center of the light is three feet off the ground when I am ten feet away from the wall. Does anyone have some numbers on this?

I have adjusted it by trial: snug the holders so that it takes a little force to move it, then go out for a spin (at night!) and move it up or down to your riding satisfaction, hi- and low-beam....'s a matter of fact, I leave it "adjustable"so's I can re-adjust on the fly...

I suppose that is a good way to do it. I'll ride around the neighborhood this evening and dial it in. Thanks.

Page 38 of my 88 GS owners manual describes how to aim the headlight.
I don't have a scanner handy but here's the gist: - front axle 16.4 ft from a wall on level ground - with the bike on its wheels and rider on the bike transfer the vertical distance from the ground to the center of the headlight to the wall - make a second mark 5 cm or 2" below the first - turn the headlight on low beam and adjust until the light/dark boundary to the left of the beam hits the lower line That's a starting point from the fatherland. |
