A collection of day (and night) trips in Israel
Israel has a very long summer. The weather varies between very hot to very hot and humid. Over the last year or so our group has started to do moonlight trips. The format is usually to start an hour or so before sunset and ride for 5 or 6 hours. We pick moonlit nights because many of us like to ride with no lighting at all. It makes for a very special experience.
Here is one of the last night trips: The area is on the edge of the Negev desert, not too far from the border with Egypt.
Riding into the sunset
The "big dune" Where we'll watch the sun set and the moon rise.
Mandatory coffee stop
Moonrise over the desert
A calm discussion assigning blame to the guilty parties for losing each other in the night.
The area is full of "bathtubs" hiding behind dunes. This makes for some interesting encounters at night.
A few pics from a day trip in the hills surrounding Jerusalem
The central Negev. There is a huge natural crater (The Ramon Crater) that is crisscrossed by gullies and ridges. Great riding terrain though a bit hot.
We did a night+day trip.
We ended the night in a Beduin camp with a traditional meal
The bikes slept in the back of the tent. The Beduins are excellent hosts and some of the younger crowd are very fond of dirt bikes
The following day we set out for the day portion of the trip
View of the crater
View from the lip of the crater
The following pictures are from a trip to the Valley of Ela, where according to the Bible David slew Goliath.
The Ela Valley is in the center of Israel, in the plains between the coast in the west and the Judean Hills to the east. The Valley itself is quite wide and not very interesting for riding, but the surrounding hills are a riot.
A view of the valley from above:
Some rock gardening
And again, the group specialty
Israel is a great place to ride . We even have KTM's growing on trees.
