Man, did I sleep! After a nice breakfast and really good coffee supplied by grizzlyone I hit the road at the crack of eleven
I passed these fellows on the way - I'm pretty sure they're not indigenous to the area ![]() I think that's a beer cooler, this is Canada after all. Jurrasic Ale anyone? ![]() Here's the Coombs Country Market. There's been goats living here on the roof for over 40 years. I think they slept in later than I did 'cause they weren't out today. ![]() I used to live in Nanaimo many years ago and back then there was just the Market. Now there's a whole tourist metropolis with some rather interesting attractions. ![]() Somebody said I'd get more views if I had a picture of a naked woman. ![]() For the women. Yeah, it's a really big - well, you know. ![]() As I left Coombs it started to rain and before long it had turned into a real downpour. I got on the inland highway to bypass Nanaimo. It was wet! ![]() I don't know why but I have a weakness for these scenes with big ships, maybe because of my job. This is Ladysmith harbour and this ship is waiting for a berth in Vancouver. This time of year there's ships anchored everywhere waiting to take on cargos of grain for destinations all over the world. ![]() It didn't stop raining until I got back to the Malahat. Coming down the south side the road started to dry out so I treated myself to a few of my favourite twisty roads for the last bit of my ride home. ![]() ![]() ![]() This is Patricia Bay on the west side of the Saanich Peninsula. Remember the Coast Guard ship from the Mill Bay picture on the first day? Here it is again from the other side. ![]() Looking from Patricia Bay northwest into Cowichan Bay. ![]() Thank you all for following along on my quest for inner camping peace. Now that I've overcome my tent phobia I plan on many more treks to far and not-so-far away places. Watch for me on the road, I'm hard to miss

Hahahahaha! Inside joke. That's pretty funny, Cindy! I loved your ride report, and you have a good eye for photography. Sure looking forward to meeting you in Colorado this summer!

Enjoyed your Day Trippin’ report. Camping, gravel, and water crossing, lots of phobias were conquered on this trip. You are now ready for bigger adventures.

Since I'm from s. florida and have been riding in BC several times...I say +1, you need to get up there and ride. It is beautiful.

Great rr
The last time I was in Nanaimo was in 1988. We stumbled on a bridge where they had a permanent bungee jump business set up . On this particular day they were offering free bungee jumps for anyone willing to do it NAKED, yep in your birthday suit. Neither of us did it as they were already sold out of naked jumps for the day. The people watching was interesting to say the least. On that day we had the fortune...or misfortune as it was, to witness the largest man ever to bungee jump naked (375 lbs, or 170 kilos for you Canuk ADVr's). Gotta love Canada, and by the way, Vancouver and Victoria are two of the most beautiful cities I have ever visited.
To this day, I'm not sure if that record has since been broken!
