You are probably thinking about Mattabi Mine. (if you are refering to the 1980's.)

You can't just leave it like that.

Gift Lake in northern Alberta is kind of like that. Little bastards would throw rocks everytime driving through there, so I would fishtail and throw 'em back.

They've done things like fill the potholes with paint to ruin your paint, string ropes across the road, throw rocks, shoot over you...

As Lac Rouge says,Oz is not a nice place!

Well, actually I work (quite a bit north) of there!

It was just part of the adventure when we did the Windigo Lake Ride....

Fold up rod and any kind of artificial lure is all you need.

The black lines are winter roads.

Nice map. Do you happen to know if there's a winter road to Nunavut, (other than the 30 kph one out of Yellowknife)?

Hi, Ron,

I looked over your Windigo Lake Ride - a great report. The mystery town is certainly enticing - even with the explanation posted by you last September.

I wonder... looks like a great destination, possibly for the oncoming season.

Two questions:

I did have weird experiences in the past and am now quite weary of locals out to mess with you. Would you feel that riding through New Osnaburgh is reasonably safe for a solo rider, or is it just asking for trouble without someone watching your back?

Also, do you still recommend Ibycus Topo maps? Dale does not offer downloads anymore, but I intend to order his DVD. Just as you wrote, I also did find that standard North American products from Garmin are lacking up North.

TIA.

for ontario check out the backroad mapbooks gps maps. got mine last year not long after they came out.

very happy with them, opens up a whole new world... some of the roads on the maps are old and grown in but they are still good for exploring. I have mine on a garmin 60csx on a handlebar mount. really happy with the setup. its nice to be able to make up some routes in mapsource to try out too.

I tried to get the ibycus maps a while ago but was unsuccesful

I am sure you would be fine getting through osnaburgh, afterall lots of people travel that highway everyday, but it makes for a good story anyway!

They were just putting in the incline when we were there. I will have to look a round for some of my pictures from then.

Another vote for the Backroads Mapbooks, and 'spcially the GPS version!

Thank you for the compliment rdwalker...I should go back and reload the missing pics, etc, they got lost when they upgraded the server.

You will be safe enough riding through there...but even the cops will tell you not to stop for anything. I was just relaying a message that everyone around here already knows. (I believe RedRyder had no problem there, but
why risk it?)

Hey, if I was in a city, and someone said "don't go there" , I wouldn't.

Sorry, justanotherrider, I don't have maps for that area.

I think you were at the abandoned mine further south, Klondike1??

One last thing, I didn't find the Ibysus maps that helpful.
