Thanks Barney. I haven't settled on a GPS for this bike yet and am kind of a paper map guy anyway. I'll get down there before long and pick one up.

you can use Thompson water seal...from home depot. just coat both sides and let dry 24 hours.
or.....

I never thought about using Water-Seal to laminate a paper map, and this is the first time I've heard of it. It has the potential to be a Great Idea, no doubt about it. How do ya apply it?

i guess a soft paintbrush or foam brush would be the way....or maybe a foam roller?

thanks for the tip astro

however, ive read on backpacking forums and such that the paint on waterproofing is pretty limited as far as mechanical damage goes - I dont care about waterproofing as much as I want to preserve the things that happen to end up at the corners of the maps - theres a chunk of blackwater river missing from my map where 4 corners diverge..

That would be a good spot to hang a hammock and take a nap, there's a nice little babble going on with that brook and I would love to tell you where it is, but thats on a need to know, double secret probation basis. You and Inept may want to check you're pm's anyway though.
