I would just like to say again how much i love this ride report! I believe it is everything adventure riding should be! On a bike that one would normally think shouldnt be taken into these circumstances and on a good budget!

This thread really makes me want to get a ninja 250... and i have really been thinking about it!! But everyone i talk to tells me that downgrading would be very boring... so im getting crap from all my friends about wanting a ninja 250!!

thanks guys!

My step-son just went back to a Ninja 250 from an older Ninja 600. While he likes the power of the 600, he enjoys riding the 250 much more. It's lighter, more flickable, better on gas, cheaper to insure, and does everything he wants it to do. Small bikes have a certain allure that can't be satisfied by a larger bike.

As shown by this report, they are still capable of taking you anyplace you might want to go.

As a wise man once said...it's more fun to ride a slow bike fast than to ride a fast bike slow.

Right now it's tough to find a good one in that price range due to the cost of gas - six months ago it would have been easy (step-son just paid $500 less for a used 07 than the bike cost new in 07), but it is doable, you'll just have to keep looking.

Got my '05 for $1300 cash. Good luck in your search. Have you checked out the flea market here? I found mine on Craigslist.

Oh, don't worry, your <$1500 goal is very doable. Just make sure you're ready to pull the trigger when the opportunity presents itself(i.e. have money in the bank). I just picked up my soon-to-be-a-trackwhore 9k mile, good condition '03 yesterday that I paid only 500 bucks for. Yes, you heard right - five hunny. It came with a new spare rear tire, too. The only drawbacks are the sun-faded tank, a 2" crack in the windscreen, and a case of yawn-inducing powerlessness. ;-)

Jordan and Michelle, kudos to you both for making such an adventure happen. This is one of those reports that makes me want to hop on a bike right now and get lost down south for a few months.
