Thanks for showing some places I've never seen before.

That looks like a great place to ride.

Great Ride Report

Great Ride Report as usual Cannonshot. All great places to ride, and so close to home. I'll be riding each of these areas many more times thoughout the years. You sure can't beat the current entry price at Interlake!

Gonna be doing an overnight Turkey Bay ride in a few weeks. Can't wait to see LBL with full green foliage. Great lake views, trails and camp sites all along the Trace. Gotta love it.

Thanks for taking us along on your trip!

How are the snake populations in the Land Between The Lakes area?

Well, the area hosts pesky rattlesnakes, copperheads, and cottonmouths.

I kind of expected to see something sunning on one of the trails but didn't.

The motorized trails at Turkey Bay are pretty open visibility wise (most of the time). I don't think anyone that didn't like to encounter snakes would have any issues riding there if practicing general awareness.

Speaking of "general awareness", when I was putting along slowly for a moment at Lawrence County I must have run over a big black snake I didn't see. Critic saw it strike at me as he rode behind me.

He was not happy! It was at least 2 strikes, I think cannon's roll over left tracks on his tail.

My view, coming from a different direction, with cannon from dualsport and myself a tight single track. I really enjoyed Lawrence Cty, which has the feel of being more than 400 acres. Then there were only a handful of riders that day.

Lawrence Cty: I enjoyed there single track, much of which is new trail. The property has is a deverse selection of terran; with muddy boggs for quads, open trails for less experienced and atv's, challenging but not extreme sporting trails, and again the single track. A blend of these could satisfy the motocross types.
The future will tell the full story. I was told; they are going to implament trail usage rules, that is, the trail usage will remain as they are now and will be marked for type of usage.

Interlake: Looks to be very promassing. The land reclamation looks mature with trees around 15yrs old and interesting ground cover. It would have been great to do a ride in inspection, but the weather had other plans.

Land Between the lakes: This is a very well developed ohv area. It has very challenging up hills, which make for exciting down hills with a mix of large rocks to small grit. It's all about control! We found some very enjoyable cross trails, that work well for bikes. The kind you can get a good rythem going for a good distance, then throw in a challenging climb to change the pace and back on another blue diamond trail. Once the seasonal growth kicks in, things may get even more interesting. Dust may play a part as things dry out. There is the added attractions of the LBtL development. Also, interesting BBQ in the area!

This is my back yard...I have hunted, fished & camped in the LBL for many years and it is truly a special place. Some of the larger campgrounds are pretty busy in the summer, but there are lots of remote places to camp if you look around a bit. Visitors should be aware of a couple of things...there is really nothing of a commercial nature actually in the LBL. It's basically 170,000 acres of woods. Also, while there might still be a few bootleggers & moonshiners around, the area is dry as a bone. It is about a 30 mile run to the nearest liquor store. Yeah, really.

But yes...there is lots of good BBQ around

Return to Redbird Spring 2012

A few of us got together to escape the Wisconsin winter and do some riding at Redbird and Badlands.

Part of the crew: Dr Zed, BENRON, Gasdoctor.

Varying choices in tires. It proved to be muddy so tires filled up often.

Lots of opportunities to drop into a deep valley that can be difficult to climb back out of - especially when it is wet.

A couple of others were at the park.

Pondering a way up and out out.

Gasdoctor

BENRON

vwboomer

Dr Zed

Upside down bike smoke.

Watching to see if someone makes it up a climb.

More Redbird

Break time.

This new trail segment cuts around the water hole I was stuck in last year.

Just as we finished loading up, a hellacious storm came through and hammered us much of the way to the Badlands. Off to Attica (Badlands) to meet more riders and friends!

Badlands

We got rooms at the Hotel Attica and then went over to Robies for a few beers and something to eat. I don't have any pix from dinner but I'm sure someone does. We managed to grow our group to include Cannon, Bonebag, Jason, Pinktoad, scarysharkface, Gasdoctor, BENRON, Dr Zed, vwboomer, and a half busload of 22-23 year old girls that were leaving for their assignments with the Peace Corps the next day. It rained hard. It hailed hard. We had a nice time on the covered patio.

It was nice that The Shark and Pinktoad came up to join in the fun. It was great seeing them again! It was also good to have native Indianans with us to interpret local language and customs for our group as well.

The next morning we were out at the park. Badlands takes rain better than Redbird did. Much better riding conditions than we had the previous day.

I want to thank Gasdoctor for staging this get off for the camera.

Them slurry pits are kinda dirty.

Redbird 2013

First a big shout out to Cannon on his ride reports! We planned a ride in Missouri and after the weather took a dump there we found Redbird on riderplanet and then read Cannon's report which sealed the deal. Stuckinarut, Zigman and I had a blast! I added a few more pictures, none of these do justice to the steepness of fun of this place!

Like Cannon said, don't underestimate the "most difficult"
