I don't have any experience with REI tents and none that big. That is a BIG tent. Wind might be a problem.

How dry a tent is mostly depends on it having a well designed full coverage fly and using seam sealer. You need to seal the seams even on a new tent.

My Eureka Timberline 2 person has stayed completely dry inside through a couple of overnight downpours.

Not much help, but it puts your post back on the first page.

Hi LD...I've known some folks with REI gear. It's good stuff. I've got an REI down the street from me and wouldn't hesitate to buy thier gear if I didn't already have all the gear I need..

That's a big tent, but I would easily assume it will have good strength against wind.

I'm sure it would be waterproof. And as said before....seal the seams yourself if they aren't already sealed.

ABout the only other thing I could say it make sure you cut yourself a ground cloth made out of plastic sheeting to keep the tent off the ground.

See you on the trail :)

Greetings m'lady....

I have stayed in a buddy's REI tent one camping trip about 2 years back, it was decent, lots of room and a vestibule and it rained the whole trip but the tent help up perfectly dry. He said he got it for a reasonable price but anything upwards of $200 is too rich for my blood. I also know that 2-300 bucks for a tent is not much but I would suggest that Craigslist and Kijiji are a great source for used tents especially in the winter and closer to the spring or fall. I picked up a near brand new MSR tent for $50 and I saw the same one selling at the store earlier that week for close to $400.

Just my two bits.

Oh no worries it's way to rich for my blood as well...
It's on Ebay and it was NEW never used... And it just went out of my price range .. It's now up to 207.50 and climbing

As I said we have so many tents... But our cheap old Cabin tent needs to be replaced..
And this one was at such a great buy at first ...

I have a REI tent, and so far so good. I bought it on a recommendation from a buddy that camps a lot. You might want to check out the REI Outlet, it is on their website. Read the comments, and you will see other places to get stuff on the cheap.

eBay can be frustrating in that regard. I set a mental limit, and once it's gone beyond that, so be it. Only broke that rule once (my '02 KLR), but I still didn't get "hurt."

Periodically check steepandcheap.com. They have deals on outdoor equipment that change every 20 minuted or so. The deals are generally at least 40% off and typically more. Tents are on there regularly. I've seen numerous tents recently for under $200. Not sure you'll find oe THAT big though!

We do the same thing.. Set a price that willing to go and that's that....
Don't get caught up in a bidding war.... The final sale on that one tent was 325 !!

Thanks Butters... I'll check that out...

REI=Good

I've got the half dome 2 and it's been a great tent. I use it for camping on the scoot. As a matter of fact, I just loaned it to some friends for the weekend and then decided to go up to the mountains myself, so I'm gonna rough it at the Little Switzerland Inn...

Check out the REI website for the Closeout Specials. I bought a 2-person REI tent reduced from about $160 for only $110. I have yet to try it out, but it had lots of good reviews. Pay the $20 for lifetime membership, and I think you get free shipping on orders over $100. That pays for your membership the first time you use it.
