The idea is to have the filter up high, mostly out of the dust stream.
I hope you know I was mostly talking about the exhaust?

Air filter? You mean like a R75? It will have to be at least that high to keep it out of all the dust the exhaust is gong to blow up. I think you are going to be surprised just how much dust and dirt an exhaust like that pointed straight down can blow up. I have seen it at work and it is a BUNCH!

Hey! What's that bike up above doing in the scrambler's thread. That's a real bike built to do real things, not a scrambler. It's kinda like putting a Yamaha WR in a DT thread.

Who cares! For my money you can post these kinds of results anywhere you want. I want it, too. Too bad the skill, the time, and/or the money are lacking on my part or my '81 G/S would be a mirror.

Supershaft, thanks for the heads up on the exhaust. The I made the "tip" portion really easy to get off, a "re-direct" may well be in order. It's all just a big experiment anyway. It's still fun! Now all I need to complete this bike is time. Money comes and goes but once time is gone, it's gone and you can never get it back.

Sure. You have got to run it like that a bit just to see all the crap it blows up. It's pretty amazing IMO. Funny might be a better word.

Like I have said many times before, I take the grab handle off my airheads for dirt rides. They bruise the crap out of my leg right above my MX boot since I am standing up and leaning back a lot through the ruff stuff. I see a lot of people (most everybody that isn't taking two trips to haul ass) riding like that. Most every up swept exhaust I see here would do the same thing only worse. I USE to ride dirt bikes a LOT. One time I was riding my boss's dirt bike around a TT track and about six kids (one of them was pretty fast) pulled off the track and was just watching me go around and around. I stopped and asked them if they could tell that I USE to go pretty good on a dirt bike. They all yelled in the affirmative. That made me feel good.

Just read through 50 odd pages of scramblers and thoroughly enjoyed it with some interesting and ingenious ideas. One thing that also struck me is does Supershaft ever have anything constructive or positive to say about anything?

he's very positive about himself and his opinion.

As far as being constructive... he builds himself up frequently.

More off topic personal BS about SS from Renner's mouth? I never!

Something positive?? Open up your eyes and look higher up this page.

Isn't it funny how blowhards around here get all mouthy on a real stupid level and then when I respond they tell me to relax. As if their mouth is my problem? Look at yourselves moaners and get back on the topic of this thread. Yet another hijack attempt?!? Why not post pics and . . . ? Why not mind your own business and stick to the subject of the threads?

Decided to start a Dakar inspired build

Gone with XR600 forks and Ohlins 18" rear suspension.
It's a tall bike, and by the looks of it i may end up tilting the engine slightly for prop shaft angle.

All the best
