Great RR's! I found this one from the other report about your Black Rock Desert Anniversary Ride.

I used to live in Alturas back in '80-81, worked there for a year. Drove through Susanville on my way to Reno a couple of times Had a few of opportunities to go out and explore the country but only in a cage. Some day I will be back out in that area to ride the same roads you both rode, as well as some other inmates who write about the area.

Thanks for sharing!

Thumb Very cool!

Very cool report!

We go through Alturas about twice a year to visit friends in Bend and then on up to Seattle to visit our son.

My wife was taking pics of a water tank on top of a building south of Alturas when a CHP stopped by to check on us. He was really a cool guy. He told us of a group of guys and their sons that ride east and camp out by the Alkali lakes and ride around the Black Rock desert.

We saw a herd of horses south of Wagontire last August. I'm not sure they were wild though, they didn't spook and run off right away.

We'll be coming through your area again in a month or two.

Again... nice report!

Glad you likes the RRs. We have yet to fully explore the Alturas area, but plan to this summer. Going to hit the Black Rock and head north from there and end up in the Warner Mountains. Maybe stay at the hotsprings (Surprise Valley) for a night. This is a great place to live for sure!!

Thanks Michael. Last summer we did a huge loop from Susanville to Oregon Coast to Bend to back home. (I should do a report on that one...) Loved that trip. We have some places "bookmarked" in the Alturas area, the Alkali Lakes area is one in particular. We see quite a few mustangs and burros around here. Most of the time they just stand there waiting for their picture to be taken. Safe travels on your up coming trip. The snow should be gone for sure by then.

Thank you! The reports are only possible if you take me there!! So many places to ride, so little time. Bring on the next trip!

Eagle Lake Road. That snow is staying forever, hence the reason we went to Death Valley for some sun!

Definitely be careful on A-1. The cinder's, and loose asphalt (from scraping) are abundant at this time of year. For me it's all about dirt bikes right now but we have to throw in a bit of road into the mix, and A1 fits the bill nicely!

Hi Aimee!
I was just going through my old PMs and I saw your message...
So sorry I couldn't view your RR at the time (we had terrible internet connections in Hawaii, ok for PMs but lousy for pics), but I enjoyed it today.
I love titus canyon - great job with the iguana photos, too!

Thanks Kelly. We really enjoyed the trip. Those iguanas were very dinosaur-like and trying to hide from me. Glad you liked the report.

I really enjoyed reading about your trip through and around Death Valley. I've made a few trips there myself in the past year. I usually stay in Goldfield at the Santa Fe Saloon. Clean, modern room but no food. I did find out on one of my trips there that the one gas station that's still open also serves home cooked meals. The meatloaf is worth the trip. I'm planning another trip to Goldfield in late October to take more pictures. By the way, the old coart house is still active and the judge is very friendly. If you stop in to visit, check out the old mug shot photos and the ball and chain in the sheriff's office just across the hall! Everyone is really friendly and willing to tell stories about the old town.
