Did I not mention that my otherwise incredible KLX250S not a great jumper? OK full disclosure now: it isn't. I wouldn't think about hitting doubles on it due to the mush on the front end that Kawasaki calls forks. You're way ahead of me there.
Thanks for implying I can ride fast, but if I ever show speed it's got to be from divine intervention, 'cause riding on my skills alone I just crash.

Well we got Lutz's opinion now we need to hear what tire choices Randy would use! Serendipitously, he just posted his response on another thread over on the Wisconsin thread somewhere. Here, I'll copy and paste it:

So I go with the only real manly choice: 0/100% dirt/street tread. I prefer uncut slick tires, but those are hard to find on a 3.5/18 inch rear wheel. So I'll make my own slicks out of Lutz's warn out 80/20 knobbies. There is nothing better than throwing a 30 foot gravel rooster on slicks while yelling "Look at it" to my bros eating my dust.
His words not mine.

Sounds like a good early season trip but after Jesse's description I'll be going to the 2013 AMA Supercross on Saturday.

Random Weekend Ride Idea

How bout a run up to Windigo Lake? Northern most road in Ontario. Lots of past rides and info on advrider about Windigo Lake. Would make a good long weekend ride.

"You build it, they will come"

Great idea! Memorial weekend?

I have a motorcycle, good tires, a tent, a sleeping bag, and a cot.

Sounds good to me. Also, I want to do a circle tour this summer. A nice mid-week ride, although I see that someone did it in 21 hours. Was that you Mike? Only stopping for fuel and pie?

There are quite a few ironbutt type riders who have ridden around the Big Lake in less than 24 hours. No pie on a ride like that, just gas and go. I recently heard of two guys from Grand Marais who rode snowmobile around the Lake a few years back, in record time.

Seriously, how do rider do that, drugs? 8 hrs in the saddle can be a long time.

Drugs, absolutely no. Coffee, sometimes, at a critical time only, and sparingly. I don't use 5 hour energy drink. I do stop for a short nap now and then. It's mostly efficiency, meaning quick gas stops and good navigation, plus stopping for a nap when you have the nods. Riding speed; as fast as the faster traffic, but not so much to get a ticket.

Ergonomics of the bike has to be spot on, comfortable saddle and good bar location, excellent wind protection - good comfort equals less fatigue.

"8 hours in the saddle" - you gotta love being in the saddle - rolling along and "in the zone". There is some sort of defective genetics that goes along with the rider who does that kind of stuff.

I would definately be interested in a northern Ontario run. Pre-shindig would be a good time. Anywhere between what Mike S suggested and beginning of July would work for me.- I also would love to do another fast trip around the big pond this summer if anyone is actually interested in that. One would be surprised how refreshed you feel after twenty some hours of doing nothing but looking at scenery and thinking. A comfortable seat as was mentioned is a must. And plenty of fluids. Oh and CASH not credit cards at the toll bridge in sault ste. marie!

Windigo Lake

I like Mike's suggestion. The long Memorial Day Weekend 25-27 May, would probably work for me too. I have it penciled in, we'll see where we are all at come May. I would really like to run up to Windigo Lake. I'd like to bring a fishing pole too if we have enough time to fish for a few hours too.

EDIT: It would be fun to do some exploring once up there too. Looking at the satallite images, there appears to be a trail from Windigo Lake up to Weagamow Lake. Who knows if it's passable in the summer time, but it would be fun to find out!
