Every helmet manufacturer I know of recommends you replace your helmet at least every seven years because of the breaddown of the material, such as the padding, even if you never use it.
I replaced my first Shoei helmet after 14yrs with a new shoei. I did notice after buying the new helmet that the old one's padding was pretty hard and unforgiving. The helmet was also pretty banged up from being dropped about a dozen times, also grounds for replacement. Don't know if I totally believe the seven year thing as well as replacing the helmet after every fall, but I'm sure Lutz is over dew for a new helmet.
I'd love to buy a new helmet over the internet. Bike Bandit had some awesome deals on Black Friday, but my head is a weird shape and 90 percent of helmets just don't fit me right. I like to support the places that are allowing me to try helmets on.
I've had Shoei send me replacement parts and it's taken about a week.

Snow My God !!

This snow is, in fact, ON like Filet Mignon ! Full on Nor' Easter right down the shore. Made the Brewhouse for IPA's, an excellent wild rice burger, and tasty fries. And an ADVenturous drive home. I think I just shoveled 12 inches, and it almost felt like it was being replaced just as fast. 25 mph right outta the NE.

Yeah! Snow shoveling party at my place. Starts right now and ends when the driveway is clear. BYOB and BYOS (shovel). Any takers? Anyone? No? Oh we'll, I'm already done for now anyway.

No extreme accumulation here in TH...tough to judge based on the extremes of drifting from bare dirt to a couple feet. Probably really only 6" or so, but it's really wet here. Would have been a big one if it was powder.

Would anyone in the arrowhead be interested in studding tires for winter riding? I am thinking of a community stud gun, like the front rangers did http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=416814. I am looking at grip studs for next winter but if there is enough interested I would be willing to invest in the equipment then let people use it for a minimal fee...enough to cover the electricity and maybe pay off the studding tool in 150 years...

Hwy 1 update

Hey Lutz thanks for the party invite! Wish i could have made it! - I drove up to Ely and Tower today for work. I have not been on hwy 1 since the road construction. I have to say I think they( mndot, planners, contractors) did a very fine job. I was thinking I too like many of us who are nastalgic, was going to miss the old road and be disapointed with the new. It still has probally as many curves but rather than having to slow down to 10 mph you can now cruise at a fun 40 miles per hour. Also don't have to dodge missing sections of road. It will be fun to go run it with the bike once the snow is gone.

Checking in; I'm still alive

After the big snow on Sunday, driving right off Hy 61 on the LEFT side, almost being able to drive back on to the road, getting out of the ditch after putting on the snowchains, throwing one of the chains and knowing it's within 25' of where I was standing, not finding it, and taking 1 1/2 hours to get from Lutsen to home... It was really windy and snowy and bad outside during that storm!

So we took Monday off from work, I plowed and played with the motorcycles. Nice to do! I missed a fantastic powder day at Lutsen ski hill, but it was worth it to just stay home and get greasy. I removed several pounds of dirt from the belly pan of the 650, plus fixed a leaky fork seal on the RT.

I'll be starting on mine tomorrow. New tires came today. I knew I needed them but there is much more I think I will need as I dis-assemble. I'm planning on making my own farkles. Already installed bigger foot pegs welded on top of the old ones. aluminum dash for the gps and aux plug in is in the future along with some panniers since I have a bunch of aluminum left over from a job. I was looking at home built tire changing stands on you tube today so I'll probably build one of those too.
