Thanks bird couple for the pictures! We would definately like to hear a report when the two of you get back from your coming trip. Life is an adventure and if not for the christmas card I never would have known you two were certainly living it! Good luck!

more on baja
I was down there late january and early feb. temps from 38 to 78. Brought alot of riding gear to be comfy with these extremes. This took up alot of space with tent and sleeping pad. ( I wouldnt suggest a inflateable pad. cactus thorns everywhere.) Packed the light stuff up high, with food, tools, spare parts, packed low in panniers. It was still to much stuff. Less is more as they say. This was the first long off road trip with a bike that Ive taken. Handling a big bike like the 1200gsa, loaded heavy is no problem for me on the pavement. Offroad in the sand was another matter. When the panniers were removed and I road around with nothing but tool kit and water, it was another bike! No prob. This yr we are taking soft luggage, less damage when we drop the bikes, and the weight will be less making handling easyer in the soft stuff. I will let ya know how this works out for us. Yes, smaller bikes would work better where we want to go in baja, but we only get to do this 3wks a yr. the rest of the time its mostly tar. more pic later

OK, so now we have a real adventure tour guide. Beautiful pictures of an enticing country. Thanks so much for sharing. Next time you head south, you should post your plans. You might snag a couple riders from this area who want to escape the north..... Vamos!
Looking a little closer at your bike, I thought the GSA has spoked and tubeless rims. You must be running tubes, or had to put a tube in after one of your flats. Being able to plug a tubeless tire is so much easier than fixing a flat with a tube tire. That spoked rim design is a huge plus to the big GSA's.

yes MikeS the rims on the gsa are tubeless. I bent the rear rim from a rock just catching the lip of the rim and peeling it up. The way BMW does tubeless is to put the spokes on the outer edge of the rim so the center has no holes in it. With this design the edge of the rim is thick and sticks out from the tire a bit. This is what the rock caught. Goes with out saying the the bead wouldnt hold and lost air NOW. Luckly I had front and rear tubes with me so no prob. The tube just peaked out a bit between rim and tire bead. This yr I am bringing a piece of leather to lay between rim and tire to bridge larger gap, helping to keep tube from pushing threw. One of the flats I got later was a gash or rip in the sidewall, cutting tube also. TKC80 is what I run. It is a trophy now! I replaced both rims with excels from woodys wheel works in denver. Inmates say they are alot tougher. My wife will be with me this yr and she will keep my speed in check
Ended up having turtle with some fisherman. Thinkin eating turtle is illegel but when in rome....
