Or drill a hole and stick in a tube that redirects any "excess" oil to the tarmac underneath and you'll have a clean and dry Sporty.

I all in on this one!
Doug, give the Road of Bones hell. I know you can make the ride, but I'm taking bets on the Dirtster giving you hell, but not winning.

In my experience with breather/blow-by problem = majority of blow-by will happen with excess oil in tank. Fill'r to the bottom marker on the dip-stick and you should be good to go. Any oil above the bottom line will eventually drain itself on y'er right knee cap.

Sporties
The Sporty has always been my favorite Harley. I put more than 100K on a 97 883. To me it is the last of the standards. Good for just about anything. Everything else seems specialized nowadays. The simple engine/trans combo and the cradle frame are great. I think you will do fine. Mine went trough some mild off roading and soft sand in the CA desert with no mods at all. Yours should do great. If only Harley had someone that looked forward (Buell) instead of backward (Willie G n company), then all of us rednecks could be riding American Iron. I am looking forward to your misadventures. Maybe you can get a film crew and that guy from Star Wars to ride with you.
